If you've been reading us, you probably saw numerous reports of dealers refusing to sell 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170s for less than $150,000. Well, as crazy as it may sound, these muscle cars can change hands for much more than that. I'm obviously talking about pristine-condition examples with delivery miles on the odo.
Mecum's Houston 2024 auction just ended this weekend, and not one, not two, but five Demon 170s crossed the block, fetching nearly $1 million combined. While the cheapest Mopar found a new home for $167,750, the most expensive one sold for a whopping $242,000. That's only $5,500 short of the most expensive Demon 170 auctioned off by Mecum Auctions as of 2024.

The $242K muscle car is a Plum Crazy example optioned up with the satin black hood and the Premium Group bundle. It has only 16 miles (26 km) on the odometer, so it's a Demon 170 that has yet to be driven on public roads. Next up, we have a Sublime version sporting the widebody package and a power sunroof. Showing just 18 miles (29 km) on the clock, this one crossed the block for $198,000.

An identical amount was paid for a Pitch Black example with only 13 miles (21 km). The fourth Demon 170 auction in Houston, one of 295 finished in Destroyer Gray, rolled off the block with a $192,500 sticker. This one had 30 miles (48 km) on the odometer.

The fifth and the most affordable Demon 170 arrived at the event sporting a green exterior and 57 miles on the clock (92 km). Hammered at $167,750, this one was auctioned off for charity. The unspecified owner donated all proceeds to three charities: Special Forces Association Chapter 79, 5th Squad, and Jared Allen's Home for Wounded Warriors.

In all, these five Demon 170s raised $998,250. That's only $1,750 short of an average $200,000 a pop, and a sign that these 1,025-horsepower muscle cars are highly sought-after collectibles only a year since they started hitting showrooms. The Demon 170 went on sale at just under $100,000 in March 2023.

These weren't the only Challengers that changed hands for more than $100K at Mecum's Houston 2024 event. While the Hellcat Redeye and Jailbreak models didn't get close to that sum, a 2023 Challenger Black Ghost found a new home for $154,000. One of only 300 units produced, the muscle car hit the block with only 108 miles (174 km) on the odo.

Four of the aforementioned Demon 170s were among the 10 most expensive vehicles sold at Houston 2024. The top 10 also included modern rigs like the 2008 Mercedes-Benz SRL McLaren Roadster ($357,500) and the 2005 Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster ($209,000). A Mercedes-Benz 300SL replica with modern underpinnings sold for $220,000.

Two classics rounded out the list. A 1968 Lamborghini 400 GT Islero rolled off the stage with a "bid does on" status at $190,000, while a 1956 Mecedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing received a high bid of $1.3 million before negotiations went private.
