Anyone can talk a big game, especially from behind a computer screen, but we all know that the final test comes when the time for talking is over, and it's time for action. GoCycle, a British maker of premium e-bikes, is definitely the kind who can walk the walk after talking the talk.
Founded by a former McLaren designer, Richard Thorpe, GoCycle makes very distinctive-looking e-bikes. The company's official presentation goes something like, the world needed a better e-bike so GoCycle delivered it, which is a very subtle way of boasting that you're making the best e-bike in the world.

It's not empty talk, either. GoCycle has patented tech and features and a very specific styling that makes all GoCycle bikes immediately recognizable. They are two-wheel machines that deliver maximum performance and quality, superb handling, and ease of use within a lightweight and tech-packed package.

Now that GoCycle is branching out on the market of cargo e-bikes, all these still hold true. The brand's first cargo model is offered in two specs as the CXi and the CX+ and is expected to start deliveries in September 2024, with the round of pre-orders closing soon. GoCycle announced the model last month and is now offering a first look at the pre-production version, including bespoke accessories.

Most cargo e-bikes will make the argument that their ultimate goal is to replace the family daily driver, offering versatility, multiple functionality, and modularity. The GoCycle cargo bike is no different, but it brings to the table unprecedented features on this segment of the market: a foldable frame, the patent-pending FloFit handlebar system (only on the CX+ model), lightweight accessories, and a very light weight for the entire bike.

The GoCycle cargo e-bike tips the scales at just 23 kg (51 lbs), which might seem like a lot if you only ride traditional, non-assist bikes, but is practically feather-weight for a cargo bike. The frame is hydroformed aluminum with carbon fiber. With all that, it comes with a payload of 220 kg (485 lbs), which includes the bike itself and the rider.

The pre-production model shown in the gallery above lives up to the promise made last month: it's a workhorse but it can double as a kid hauler, and a sophisticated and easy to use machine. Highlights include the MIK compatible rear bench and the proprietary F1-inspired protective handrail for smaller passengers, which is made of carbon fiber so as not to add more weight to the bike. Winglets double as steps for the kids to get in the back speak, and why yes, they're also inspired by F1.

"Inspired by F1 and my own experiences with my son doing the school run on a Gocycle, HaloCX redefines safety and ergonomics for kids,"
Thorpe says in a statement. "Crafted from carbon fiber, it's lightweight yet incredibly strong. With no sharp corners or welded joints, smooth to hold and feel, it's a seamless blend of safety and fun."

The GoCycle CXi and CX+ will come with the proprietary front hub motor G4drive, delivering 500W of power but limited to just 250W in European countries, where it won't top 25 kph (15.5 mph), a Shimano Nexus five-speed gearing system with a Gates Belt drive and predictive shifting with a pedal torque sensor. Per-charge range is 50 miles (80.5 km), which highlights that the targeted customer for this bike are "discerning families" and not service fleets.

Pre-orders end in April and entail a $499 deposit. The CXi starts at $6,999, while the CX+ is more expensive, at $7,999.
