Based on the GMC Sierra 1500, the 2025 GMC Yukon will be revealed later this year with a selection of pretty familiar powertrains. The front-end styling of the full-size family hauler carries over to the all-new Terrain, which – mechanically speaking – is twinned with the all-new Equinox.
In a similar fashion to the refreshed Yukon, the folks at GMC published a single pic of the 2025 model year Terrain. But as opposed to the Yukon, the all-new Terrain is considered a new generation. The third since 2009 for the 2010 model year, that is, and it sure looks bolder than its predecessor.

The driver-side front bumper, headlight, hood, and side-view mirror pretty much sum up the aforementioned pic, which also confirms an off-road-capable trim level in the form of the AT4. In the second generation's case, AT4 slots between the SLT and the fancier Denali. Coincidentally, the Denali and AT4 are the only trim levels that come standard with all-wheel drive. Regardless of grade, Terrain features a 1.5-liter turbo inline-four engine connected to a GM-developed automatic tranny.

Prices kick off at $30,095 for the SLE FWD, while all-wheel drive is listed by the GMC brand's online configurator at $31,695 including the $1,395 destination freight charge. GMC is also sweetening the deal with a $750 purchase allowance and $1,500 bonus cash, resulting in a net price of $29,445.

To be revealed later in 2024, the next-generation crossover should mirror the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox in many respects. Think 1.5-liter turbo with 175 horsepower and either 184 or 203 pound-feet (250 or 275 Nm) of torque, a continuously variable transmission in combination with front-wheel drive or an eight-speed automatic with AWD, and four-link independent suspension out back, regardless of trim and drivetrain.

The Chevy brand's redesigned Equinox uses 17-inch wheels for the LT and ACTIV trim levels, 19s for the RS, and optional 20s for the RS. Tire choices range between 235/65R17 all-terrain and all-season rubber to 235/50R20 all-season tires. Weirdly enough, Chevrolet offers two different fuel tanks: 14.8 gallons (56 liters) with front-wheel drive or 15.6 gallons (59 liters) with all-wheel drive.

It goes without saying that Equinox isn't particularly good for towing. Up to 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms) with all-wheel drive puts it way behind the Ford Escape, which offers no more than 3,500 pounds (1,588 kilograms). Based on an updated version of the previous-generation Equinox's platform, the 2025 model is manufactured at San Luis Potosi in los Estados Unidos Mexicanos.

The 2025 GMC Terrain should also be underpinned by the D2XX and come from San Luis Potosi Assembly, which previously assembled the likes of the Chevy Trax, Aveo, and Onix. The Chevrolet brand has yet to confirm the starting price of the fifth-generation Equinox, although it should be closer to $30,000 than the outgoing model's $26,600 suggested retail price for the front-drive LS.

Based on Q1 2024 numbers, the Chevy Equinox is more popular than its GMC brother. General Motors reported 54,185 deliveries in the first quarter in the United States of America as opposed to 21,864 units for the Terrain. By comparison, the rivaling Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V reign supreme in the compact segment with 124,822 and 95,038 deliveries, respectively, in the US market.
