Germany: Six-Month Waiting List for a Dacia Duster

Just like the Logan sedan that managed to create quite a stir after its debut in 2004, Dacia's new Duster keeps exceeding estimates and the best proof is probably the 6-month waiting list in France.

Basically, every French buyer who wants to purchase a new Duster right now will receive his SUV at the end of the year, Mihai Bordeanu, Dacia marketing director, said. The same scenario also applies to Germany, a country were Dacia is tied with BMW, according to the latest satisfaction study conducted by JD Power.

Since the beginning of the year, Dacia rolled off the assembly lines a total of 17,300 models, 93 percent of which have been exported to other European markets.

Dacia's low-cost SUV is offered with a choice of three engines, one petrol (1.6 16V 110hp) and two diesels (dCi 85 and dCi 110). If we are to trust Dacia's official figures (and we really should since most of these engines are already available on various Renault vehicles) the dCi versions emit from 135g of CO2/km for the 4x2 version (which qualifies it for the Dacia eco2 signature) and from 145g of CO2/km in the case of the 4x4 version.

The car is assembled in Mioveni, Romania and will be sold overseas with a Dacia badge in Turkey and Maghreb region (Algeria, Morocco). From June 2010, Duster will also be available – badged as a Renault – in the Ukraine, the Middle East (Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt) and other African countries. Additionally, it will go on sale in Brazil, Russia and Gulf states to be sold as a Renault.

We also tested the Duster 1.6 4x4 16V so, if you wish to read our findings on the world's cheapest SUV, follow this link.
