Unlike GM and FCA, which generally rely on external partners or brands to do business abroad, Ford has always tried to keep things in-house. It has done so since the early years of the carmaker; in Europe, for instance, the Blue Oval has been operating a facility as far back as 1925.
Just like GM and FCA, Ford too makes some of its models exclusive to various markets. The German Cologne facility has been responsible over the years for several models sold across Europe, including a particularly successful one called Taunus.

Born in 1939, the Taunus family was around well until the middle of the 1990s, and as such it is still very well known across the ocean, on the Old Continent. In the U.S., despite quite a number of these cars making it across, the moniker is still largely unknown, enough to warrant the use of the word exotic when talking about it.

For this particular Taunus, a fifth-gen 20M RS coupe, exotic really goes hand in hand with singular. Look as you might, and you’ll probably not find one like it elsewhere in the U.S.

Imported into the States all the way back in the 1970s, the car was restored about four years ago, when it got the present red and black paint scheme. Also then is when the interior was upgraded to the same colors.

The Taunus hides under the hood the original 2.3-liter which back in its day developed 125 horsepower. It works with the help of a four-speed manual transmission that sends power to the 14-inch wheels.

Showing about 43,000 miles (69,200 km) on the odometer, the Taunus is one of the coolest little Ford rides you could own, and cheap, too. This one is listed for sale on Bring a Trailer, and with four days left in the bidding process, the highest offer is of $4,900.
