The luxury South Korean automaker is presenting novelties left (in China at the ongoing Auto China 2024) and right (at home in South Korea), so let's see what's so fresh about the upgraded Genesis GV70.
The 18th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, or Auto China 2024, is currently in full swing (April 25 through May 4 at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing), and everyone wants to be the five-minute hero of the red carpet's spotlight. That includes Genesis, the South Korean luxury brand created by Hyundai to fight the likes of Lexus, Cadillac, and BMW, among many others.
At the Chinese show, Genesis announced a new Magma idea – the Genesis G80 EV Magma concept was presented to the public as a potential Tesla Model S (Plaid), Porsche Taycan, and Lucid Air rival. Well, it remains to be seen if that pans out or not, but the company is not sitting idle at home, either. Instead, they also announced the first details and published the initial official pictures of the refreshed Genesis GV70 compact premium crossover SUV.
Suppose you're raising an eyebrow right now. In that case, it means you're located in America and know about the company already having the 2025 Genesis GV70 up for grabs and ready for configuration – the gasoline-powered version has a base MSRP of $45,700, up from the 2024 MY's $45,150. Naturally, that means there aren't a lot of changes – we only spotted a fresh wheel design, and that's about it. Well, as it turns out, you'll need Sherlock Holmes-levels of intuition to also spot the changes between the pre-facelift 2025 GV70 and the refreshed compact CUV that is "newly designed" and will launch at home in KDM configuration in May 2024.
As per the company, the updated crossover has an enhanced exterior with a new dual-weave mesh radiator grille, "also known as the dual-weave G-Matrix Crest Grille," uses MLA technology for the dual-line headlamps, the front bumper has been redesigned, and there are also new 19-inch dark hyper silver wheels plus upgraded two-line taillights that now include the turn signals, which were previously embedded in the bumpers.
Meanwhile, the "Beauty of White Space" meets with advanced technology inside, so the cockpit has a 27-inch OLED display that neatly integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment system in a flowing layout. However, we are not so sure about the touch-based heating and air-cooling system "offering utmost convenience." The last time we heard, everyone was crying for traditional buttons and knobs. Anyway, there's also a 'big' novelty to go along with the ultra-subtle changes – Genesis also unveiled the GV70 Sport package.
It includes a dual-layer G-Matrix Crest Grille, larger air intakes, fresh 21-inch dark metallic wheels, exclusive dark-chrome diffuser, and muffler tips, plus a D-shaped steering wheel and orange-color stitching inside the cabin.
