Our inbox has been just been hit twice with these photos of is presumed to be the GV80. The first SUV in the history of the Genesis brand is close to its debut, and it's only natural to believe that official photos have been leaked.
The images can be traced back to the Korean website Bestfeed, which is not an automotive website, but we immediately recognized the style of the image. It's the same as what we saw in the 2021 S-Class images from last month, made by YouTuber 3D NORI.
We believe that Korean design students use a different kind of rendering software, just like the artist there don't seem to want anything to do with Photoshop. In any case, we even found a video of the same 3D model showing the Genesis GV80, proving that it's not an official "leak."
Now that we've established what the GV80 isn't (the SUV in these photos), let's see what it is, starting with the name. G is for Genesis and V is for Versatility. Hyundai is saying that it's roomy and capable.
The model was shown as a concept at the 2017 New York Auto Show. It's rumored that the model is based on the same platform as the Hyundai Palisade, though some people are still hoping that's it's an independent Genesis architecture shared with the next G80.
At this point, it's 100% clear that there will never be a Tau engine, the 5-liter. It's a shame because it's very smooth and powerful, but the American market has spoken. Instead, the possible line-up includes a new four-cylinder and a V6.
the four-cylinder is a 2.5-liter which is completely new and produces in the 250-300 horsepower range. The V6 is either the 3.8 or the 3.3-liter turbo made famous by the G80 Sport or the Kia Stinger GT. We hear that a 3-liter diesel model will also be developed.
Inside, the GV80 should look a lot like the concept that previewed it, meaning you will have a long display over the top of the dash.
