While Ford Australia won’t be building new vehicles outside its current lineup, as it prepares for total production shutdown in 2016, the company’s local engineering is still working on future Blue Oval-badged cars.
Ford’s latest Outback-developed vehicle, a Ranger-based seven-seat SUV, was spotted testing just outside Melbourne, driving along the Princess Highway near Avalon. According to CarsGuide reader Jackson Emiris, the back of the prototype SUV read “left hand drive” and “engineering evaluation vehicle”.
According to our source, the new SUV, which looks like a Ranger and Territory interbreeding, could be revealed sometime in the second half of 2014. Discontinued in the United States since 2012, the Ford Ranger is still available on other markets along with its Mazda BT50 twin.
