After two days ago autoevolution brought a first look at the Variant version of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat , it's now time to take a peak of what Volkswagen has prepared for the sedan version.

Wearing as much camo as its Variant peer, the car caught here shows little of its improvements. Yet, it remains a certainty the fact that the front end of the car will boast the same new front grille seen on all new generation VW vehicles. Also at the front, and as a novelty, the new Passat will feature, for the first time, LED daytime running lights.

As in the Variant's case, the new model is expected to be lower (thanks to the suspension) and bigger than the existing version, with some extra room to be provided at the interior. This will not mean severe gains in weight however, as the use of foam reinforcements and ultra-thin glass will keep the pounds within acceptable limits.

From the engine stand point, the Passat will feature the existing powerplant lineup, including 3.0l TDI, 2.0l TDI and 3.6l V6s. Engines as small as the 1.2l one will likely make it under the hood, as the push for downsizing continues. According to the info available, the units will be paired with DSG gearboxes and 4Motion AWD systems.

With the new Passat model, VW will debut, aside for LED daytime running lights, wiperless windscreen. All-angle exterior cameras and a self-parking system are also to be used in the Passat, adding to the high-tech weight of the car.
