First Subaru Test Driver Competition Ends

The British division of Subaru announced today the completion of the first National Test Drive Championship, a competition created for the Japanese manufacturer's franchises across the UK. The first edition ended with Craige Dyer, a sales specialist at Vale Motors, Wincanton, receiving the crown.

Even if those who have entered the competition are pretty much Subaru's men and women, the car maker didn't go easy on them. The winner of the competition had to prove his worth in a countrywide X-Factor-style shoot-out, with 15 dealers from each of the five areas in which Britain was divided sending their representatives.

“We take the quality of our dealership experience extremely seriously. After all, the dealer and the test drive is the first point of contact between the customer and Subaru vehicles,” said Sam Burton, Subaru UK sales director.

“Our renowned dealer training and development programme is constantly being revised and adapted to reflect the changing market place in which our colleagues operate, and to help equip dealers to succeed.”

The finale of the competition, hard as it was against fierce competition, got even worse as soon as the finalists learned that, as an extra torture, they had to take the boss, Sam Burton, for a ride. Apparently, Dyer managed to impress his boss.

“I’m very happy to have won the competition, both for myself and for my dealership. Not only do I take a great sense of pride back to Somerset with me, but also a honed set of sales skills and a renewed desire to improve and learn,”
Dyer said.
