Feel free to become confused by Aston Martin models wearing the moniker DBS. Chronologically, it’s almost as if none of them are even related (there's no continuity), and technically they’re not. You’ve got the original late-60s DBS, followed by the DB9-based DBS V12 in the late 2000s, and now the DB11-based DBS, also known as the DBS Superleggera.
Personally, I’m a big fan of the latter. It’s a monster of a car, with its 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine, generating upwards of 700 horsepower. It’s also arguably one of the best-looking Aston Martin grand tourers ever built. I think it’s just as sexy as the Ferrari 812 Superfast, and choosing one over the other takes you to that very special destination called “between a rock and a hard place.”

Let’s forget the Ferrari for a second and focus on the DBS Superleggera, specifically this 2022 Volante model (it means convertible) up for grabs at auction. It’s actually being sold by a genuine Ferrari dealer out of Seattle, and with only a few hours left in the proceedings, interested parties would be wise to hurry up and bid.

The best part is that you’ll most likely land this Aston Martin for way (waaaay) under MSRP. This car cost $357,000 when new, and now, not many miles later, you should be able to grab it for less than $250,000. Hopefully.

So, what’s there to like about it? Plenty, starting with the Liquid Crimson Signature Metallic exterior, working alongside the power-operated black convertible top, chrome badging, LED headlights, quad exhaust outlets with matte black finishers, plus a set of gloss black 21” forget twin-spoke alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero rubber and yellow calipers over ventilated carbon-ceramic discs.

Meanwhile, the interior boasts Onyx Black Haircell leather upholstery, and those heated and 12-way power-adjustable seats look absolutely delicious. You also get Piano Black and Dark Chrome accents, dual-zone climate control, a Bang & Olufsen BeoSound audio system, sat-nav, a black leather, flat-bottom steering wheel, and an instrument cluster that indicates just 487 miles. This is very much still a new car.

Back to that twin-turbocharged V12, it’s the same engine you get in the DB11 AMR – although you get more boost in the DBS Superleggera for a total of 712 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, with everything going to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

You need about 3.4 seconds in order to hit 60 mph in a DBS Superleggera Volante, before maxing out in the vicinity of 211 mph (340 kph). The top speed is identical to that of an 812 GTS (the convertible variant of the Superfast), although the Ferrari is quicker off the line, hitting 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds.

In the end, I think I’d still rather have an 812 over a DBS Superleggera, even though the former is definitely going to cost you more.
