Today, Dodge may be best known among the petrolhead crowd for its insanely-powerful Hellcat series. But the whining supercharged V8 is about to be retired, as the Stellantis-owned brand's future is electric.
They have already offered an important glimpse of their future muscle car last year when they unveiled the Charger Daytona SRT Concept, and the next-gen Hornet is also understood to go down the all-quiet route. But what about the Durango?

Depending on whom you ask, there are several scenarios using different nameplates from the brand's past, and all of them indicate an electron-sipping future for the SUV. The next-gen will, therefore, not only ditch the HEMI V8 mentioned above but also the remaining units fed by gasoline. The supercharged 6.2-liter mill is good for a whopping 710 hp (720 ps/530 kW) and 645 pound-feet (875 Nm) of torque in the SRT Hellcat, allowing it to hit 60 mph (97 kph) in just 3.5 seconds. The lump gives it a best-in-class maximum towing capacity of up to 8,700 pounds (3,946 kg), according to Dodge.

Now, about that rumored all-electric power of the next-gen Dodge Durango, assuming that the automaker will keep this moniker around for their future flagship SUV in North America, we could speculate on the numbers, stating that the range-topper will dwarf the outgoing Hellcat in every aspect. But the truth is that we know nothing about the output and thrust. In fact, we cannot even tell you when it is due, though several outlets report that it could be a few years away from taking an inevitable swing at the rumored all-quiet replacement of the Lamborghini Urus, facing it in all sorts of direct head-to-head battles.

While we're trying to find out some juicy details about the successor to the current Durango, the rendering world has started messing around with its looks. The CGI shared in the gallery above came via kelsonik on Instagram, imagining the high-rider with an entirely new face. The design was inspired by the one of the Charger Daytona SRT Concept, hence the new grille with retro-futuristic styling, minimalist headlamps, and a new bumper with a sizeable air intake in the middle and vertical vents on each side, as well as the apron attached to it. Complete with the scoop, the hood carries over from the current Durango, and the doors now feature flush-mounted handles. The pixel manipulator also gave it smaller side mirrors and new wheels of a larger diameter before calling it a day.

Between us, we think the front fascia of the electric muscle car study suits the Durango rather well, and together with additional modifications, it would be an interesting zero-emission SUV. And we don't have to tell you to take this rendering with the proverbial pinch of salt, as there's no indication that the vehicle will look anything like this, do we?
