There are numerous electric classic Minis out there, and as of recently, David Brown Automotive (DBA) has joined that list with its own model. The British company's proposal is called the Mini eMastered, and promises poor performance and driving range in exchange for a small fortune.
According to DBA, the Mini eMastered uses an original Mini as the donor car, whose body is handcrafted by its team based in Silverstone, England. Each car can be tailored to its owner's requirements and doesn't lack a modern infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Said to weigh as much as the original ICE-powered car, namely 640 kg (1,410 lbs), the Mini eMastered uses an all-electric drivetrain. The motor generates 97 hp (98 ps/72 kW) and 129 lb-ft (175 Nm) of torque. For an electron-sipping featherweight machine, it doesn't impress in terms of performance. The 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) is dispatched in 8.5 seconds, and it does 92 mph (148 kph) flat-out when engaging the Sports mode.
The electric motor is fed by an 18.8 kWh battery pack, which supports 6.6 kW AC charging. According to DBA, the battery can be juiced up in three hours using a home wall box. Although unimpressive, the range is sufficient for the daily commute, with the British marque stating that it can travel 110 miles (177 km) in the urban jungle on a full charge for "total peace of mind," David Brown Automotive says in the official press release accompanying the pictures shared above in the gallery.
We told you the body came from an original Mini, we mentioned some of the modern amenities, and we also talked about the performance and driving range of the new eMastered. What we haven't told you is the pricing. You'd better sit down for this one, as while the classic Mini doesn't cost a lot of money (the cheapest examples don't, anyway), you'd have to be loaded to afford this one. You see, the press release attached below does not mention the Benjamins, DBA's website does.
Okay, enough babbling about it, as it is time to reveal how much it is: £125,000 or $154,848 at the current exchange rates. Mind you, that's the starting price in the United Kingdom, and it excludes the local sales taxes, duties, registration fees, and shipping from Silverstone. DBA is currently accepting reservations for build slots of the new Mini eMastered, and interested parties can secure one in exchange for £1,000 ($1,234). The reservation fee is fully refundable prior to the order confirmation.
Has David Brown Automotive convinced you to spend a small fortune on the Mini eMastered? It's worth noting that you could buy a brand-new Porsche 911 Carrera 4S for the equivalent of the small EV's starting price in the United Kingdom or a Tesla Model S Plaid.
