Chrysler Group has announced the introduction of the Chinese-market 3.0-liter Pentastar engine, which replaces the company’s last old V6 powerplant, at the Chengdu Motor Show in Chengdu, China.
The new 3.0-liter Pentastar unit, which is based on the same compact 60-degree architecture as the 3.6-liter mill and delivers 230 horsepower at 6,350 rpm and 210 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm, will debut in the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2014 Jeep Wrangler.
The introduction of the new 3.0-liter powerplant means that all Chrysler’s V6 engine, which are used in no less than 16 models across 11 segments, are now part of the Pentastar family.
“The Pentastar program is a milestone in Chrysler Group’s ongoing journey,” said Bob Lee, vice president and head of engine, powertrain and electrified propulsion systems engineering. “It not only is proof positive of our technical proficiency, it is tangible evidence of our deep-rooted commitment to excellence in powertrain development.”
