Challenger Hellcat vs. 751 HP Hennessey Camaro SS, the Funny Street Fighter Take

At first, trying to imagine a funny part for a drag race between a Dodge Challenger Hellcat and a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS that's been to the Hennessey gym might seem ridiculous, if not impossible.

Well, the Texan tuner has recently hosted a drag race battle between the two muscle machines. And while we all saw this coming, the Lone Star State developer managed to add an amusing touch to the fight, one that has a Street Fighter aroma - we don't want to throw too many spoilers at you, so we'll stop this part of the story here and let the footage at the bottom of the page do its job.

You can look at this from Hennessey's point of view - the company has been constantly upping the ante in terms of its videos and product presentation over the last year or so. Then again, the developer had to come up with a special way of introducing such a drag race. And that's because the results are obvious once you check out the numbers.

First of all, even with the blower kit, we expect the Hennessey 2016 Camaro SS to be over 600 lbs lighter than SRT's muscle coupe. Then there's the power premium delivered by the tuner vehicle: while the Hellcat allows the driver to play with 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of twist, Hennesey's LT4 work gifts the sixth-gen Camaro with 751 hp and 734 lb-ft of torque.

In our book, such results don't put a dent in the Hellcat's armor. First of all, people had been strapping blowers to Challengers for years, but the sheer joy of the Hellcat means having such an asset in a factory package, one that comes with a 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. For the sake of comparison, we'll mention Hennessey offers a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.

As odd as it might sound, we'll mention the original Acura NSX story as an example of what Dodge's Hellcat badge means. You see, when Honda came up with the NSX, its purpose was to one-up the V8 Ferrari of its era. The target was achieved, which allows the Japanese mid-engined machine to earn its cult status. Nevertheless, in a few years' time, Maranello turned the tables, but many people remained obsessed with the NSX, hence the tons of attention it still enjoys nowadays.

Now, any tuner, or manufacturer, for that matter, involved in the muscle car wars is obviously out for Hellcat blood, so expect to see more and more races like the one you'll find below. Oh, and by the way, Hennessey can dial the 2016 Camaro SS to 1,000 ponies.
