2016 Camaro SS Hits 1,000 HP When Stroked and Supercharged by Hennessey

Ever since 2016 Chevrolet Camaro deliveries commenced three months ago, the aftermarket world has been on a frenzy to add muscle to the Corvette-engined Camaro SS.
Less than two months after the vehicle's street unleashing, all three major power adders (twin-turbo, supercharger and nitrous) have been installed by various tuners.

However, when Hennessey grabbed a 2016 Camaro SS back in December last year, we knew things were going to become even more serious. Well, the Texan aftermarket developer has now released its full 2016 Camaro SS power excess line-up, with the climax being represented by a 1,000 hp incarnation of the Chevy.

Given the C7 origins of the LT1 under the hood of the Camaro SS, it's no surprise that the program mirrors that offered for the 'Vette. And yet we can't help but drool when enumerating the upgrades.

Natural aspiration fans can choose between 500, 600 and 650 hp setups. The last value also happens to be the point where the supercharged side of the range kicks in. This is followed by versions offering 700, 750, 800 and, of course 1,000 hp.

And no, there's no turbo incarnation. Perhaps Hennessey has wasted his turbocharging energy on the 1,032 hp Hellcat, which keeps the factory blower while adding a twin-turbo setup.

Returning to the HPE1000 2016 Camaro SS, this delivers its maximum power at 6,800 rpm, while the peak torque of 887 lb-ft comes at 4,200 rpm.

We have to explain the LT1 is fitted with a 416 ci stroker kit, which means it jumps from 6.2 to over 6.8 liters.

Here are the full contents of the tire-melting package (you'll have to buy the extra rubber yourself):

• Custom forged aluminum pistons with 11.5:1 compression ratio & steel wrist pins.
• 6.125-inch Billet steel H-beam connecting rods with ARP bolts.
• Balance, blueprint & assemble shortblock: fully de-bur block, line hone block with ARP main studs, deck block.
• Bore block on 3-axis CNC mill, hone block with torque plates, balance crankshaft, check bearing clearances.
• Assemble shortblock.
• CNC Ported Cylinder Heads ports- Competition valve job, extensive flow testing, chambers milled to desired cc.
• Lightweight hollow stem intake valves, exhaust valves.
• Extreme duty dual valve springs.
• Titanium retainers, machined locators & locks, GM valve seals.
• Chamber volumes measures & adjusted for compression.
• CNC work hand blended into valve job, spring pressures measured & adjusted.
• HPE hydraulic roller camshaft upgrade.
• Hydraulic lifter upgrade with extreme duty pushrods.
• 1.75 inch stainless steel long-tube headers.
• Stainless steel mid-pipe exhaust upgrade.
• High-flow catalytic converters.
• HPE engine management upgrade & chassis dyno calibration.
• Professional installation and all necessary gaskets & fluids.
• Chassis dyno testing. You’ll receive a before & after dyno graph report showing power and torque measured at the rear wheels.
• Road testing (up to 100 miles).
