Nine years after man first stepped foot on the Moon, Chevrolet celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Corvette with a special edition. An Indy Pace Car replica of the third-gen was introduced in 1978 as well, and that’s also when the model was first used as a Pace Car for the Indy 500 series.
Part of the C3 generation Chevrolet Corvette, which was made from 1967 to 1982, the pace car replicas were supposed to be limited to 100 copies for each year of production. However, it was then decided that all dealers of the bowtie brand should have one for display purposes. Therefore, what was supposed to be a limited production vehicle ended up contributing to roughly 15% of the total sales numbers.

Some of the things that made it stand out over the rest of the C3 variants were the black and silver mix with a pinstripe. These machines had a rear spoiler for dramatic purposes, exclusive decals, and special wheels, and featured gray leather or leather/cloth upholstery on the inside, matching carpeting, power windows, electric windows, power locks, and glass T-tops.

Do you still crave a pace car replica version of the Chevrolet Corvette C3 of your own? If so, then you are in luck, as the pictured one is currently searching for a new home. It came to life in 1978, has a little over 15,000 miles (~24,140 km) on the odometer, and packs a 350 cubic-inch engine. Numerous versions of this mill were offered throughout the years, and it is certainly worth reminding that all variants of the C3 Corvette were offered strictly with V8 firepower. The transmissions were a three-speed manual, a four-speed manual, a three-speed auto, and a four-speed auto, and varied depending on the selected lump.

The Garage Kept Motors ad does not reveal anything else about this old-timer, but they have shared numerous images of the car. Therefore, you can inspect it from pretty much any angle if you click this link. The vehicle is in good overall condition. The exterior, cabin, underbody, and engine bay look very decent for a machine that left the assembly line 45 years ago, so it appears the only things it needs are gasoline in the tank and a new driver behind the wheel.

To make it yours, you will have to pay $32,900, which is the asking price. Is it a good deal? Likely, yes, to the right person, as it costs about as much as a brand-new base Camaro. One could opt for the Malibu instead for similar money if they favor a fresh-off-the-lot Chevy or a multitude of crossovers and pickups. Does this Chevy Corvette C3 look like your next used fun-to-drive car?
