The new Cadillac XT5 is inching closer to its debut in China. However, the design of the model has already been disclosed. The XT5, though, will not be sold in America right after the launch on the Chinese market. The carmaker was planning to discontinue it before the arrival of the new generation, but the slow switch from ICEs to EVs might make the executives reconsider the move.
The photos of the model have been published by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as is the case with all new cars set to be sold on the Chinese market. The photos published by MIIT show different trims and different wheel designs that customers will be able to choose from once the crossover hits the market.

General Motors was planning to kill the American version of the XT5. In 2022, Cadillac executives announced that it would be a China-only model. There was no room for the crossover in the ever-expanding GM lineup in North America.

However, the XT5 is apparently getting a second chance in a market that is slowing down the progressive switch to electric cars. Cadillac is planning to become an all-electric brand by 2030, but the ICE-powered cars will not be dropped all of a sudden.

But before it hits the American market, the Cadillac XT5 is inching closer to its debut in China. The second generation comes in line with Cadillac's latest design language. It sports an angular design, the typical upright grille flanked by slimmer LED headlights, connected by a chrome strip, and vertically positioned DRLs, forming an 'L' positioned upside down.

That grille seems to have shrunken for the second-generation XT5. New creases showed up over the wheel arches, and the roofline turned quite sloppy, which makes the vehicle look more athletic. A dual exhaust flanks the reverse light.

According to the document submitted by General Motors to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in China, the crossover measures 192.4 inches (4,888 millimeters) in length, which makes it 3 inches (76 millimeters) longer than the outgoing model, which has been on the market since 2016. The wheelbase has also slightly increased, now reaching 112.7 inches (2,863 millimeters).

The extra length and wheelbase should translate into more space on board and more cargo space. There is no photo of the interior of the model, but we should see features similar to what we know from the other Cadillac models. For instance, it might carry over the 33-inch LED curved display from the Cadillac XT4.

Chinese customers will receive the Cadillac XT5 powered by a 2.0-liter engine supplied by General Motor's partner SAIC. The unit generates 227 horsepower (230 metric horsepower).

If the model will be sold in North America, it will surely have a different powertrain. It should be either the turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine with 235 horsepower (238 metric horsepower) or the 3.6-liter V6 with 310 horsepower (314 metric horsepower). Customers will be able to spec their cars with either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
