After a quality engineer at the Spring Hill assembly plant identified a Cadillac XT6 with a missing toe link to knuckle bolt in the left-side rear suspension, General Motors didn’t have a choice but to open an investigation. The supplier’s manufacturing records indicated that the bolt had been fully tightened, but Comprehensive Logistics Inc. was wrong.
Further investigation revealed that the supplier’s error-proofing equipment had been improperly configured as a result of a change in the assembly process. Under specific circumstances, the tool operator could’ve failed to fully tighten the bolt without detection by the error-proofing equipment.

The investigator worked with assembly plant employees to determine which vehicles may be affected by this condition. No fewer than 271 toe links had been contained at Spring Hill, of which six exhibited loose fasteners. No claims or complaints related to the subject issue were reported outside of the factory. GM ultimately decided to conduct a safety recall this month, a campaign that covers 736 vehicles manufactured for model year 2022.

Two percent are believed to exhibit loose fasteners. The list begins with 354 examples of the GMC Acadia mid-size crossover produced from December 2021 to March 2022. Next up, we have the 223 units of the Cadillac XT5 and 159 units of the Cadillac XT6 produced in the aforementioned timeframe. The link assembly carries part number 84199653 as per the attached document, which lists the owner notification date as August 1st.

General Motors further highlights that vehicles produced after March 9th were built with rear suspensions produced outside of the suspect window. Error-proofing procedures were corrected by the supplier on March 23rd.

The fix, as you’d expect, is rather simple. Dealers will inspect the left-side rear suspension, and if the subject fastener is loose or missing, they’ll retorque it to the correct specification or replace and torque it properly.

In the meantime, owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. Alternatively, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle’s website is where you’ll find a VIN look-up tool that comes in handy in these circumstances.
