Bugatti La Voiture Noire is the world's most expensive car ever. However, the model was spotted in the parking lot of a budget grocery store somewhere in Switzerland. The photo sparked tons of comments on social media.
Bugatti unveiled La Voiture Noire at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019 as a one-off based on the Chiron and as a tribute to the Type 57 SC Atlantic, which was Jean Bugatti's personal car. That particular car vanished without a trace in 1938, while being shipped from Molsheim to Bordeaux, and has never been found.

The French hypercar manufacturer tried to do justice by building an homage to the car that nobody has known about for over eight decades.

The one-off La Voiture Noire sold for a staggering $16.5 million (16.7 million euros) in 2019. Those are figures that make it the world's most expensive new car. However, the name of the owner has remained undisclosed all these years.

Some indicated Cristiano Ronaldo as the owner of the Black Car. But the soccer star has never confirmed it. He does own, though, a Bugatti Centodieci, for which he reportedly paid $9.9 million.

Another route to follow was former chairman of Volkswagen Group and grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, Ferdinand Piech. But Piech passed away just months after the car was sold.

The one-off was spotted several times in Switzerland, but every time, there was a different person behind the wheel, which made it impossible to tell the exact owner. Now, it has been spotted again, driving around the parking lot of a budget grocery store.

The presence of the world's most expensive new car there sparked controversy on social media. "That's how you save money for this car," an Instagram user joked. "How to stay rich longer," another wrote on Instagram.

"A Bugatti at Lidl, what is the problem here?" someone asked in French. Of course, there is no problem. Just a huge contrast between the value of the car and the place where it was photographed.

The car reportedly cruised at slow speed, displaying its sleek silhouette and low stance, dipped in carbon fiber, exclusivity, enigma, and suspense. You can't prove the worth of a hypercar in a parking lot. Besides, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire is not just any hypercar.

It is powered by an insane 16-cylinder 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged engine, which pumps out 1,479 horsepower (1,500 metric horsepower) and 1,180 pound-feet (1,600 Newton meters) of torque, roaring out through six tailpipes.

Those figures make it flash from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in just 2.4 seconds on its way to a top speed of 261 mph (420 kph). That's definitely not a speed to test in a parking lot.
