With the introduction of the iX1 eDrive20 earlier today, BMW's UK arm has now stepped forward to announce the pricing and availability of the new entry-level variant of the electric crossover for the local market.
Sitting below the xDrive30 xLine and xDrive30 M Sport, with the latter being available in two guises, the new BMW iX1 eDrive20 has a recommended retail price of £44,560 (equaling $56,234). This makes it £8,290 ($10,462) more affordable than the previous base model. The two versions of the xDrive30 M Sport, the Technology and Ultimate, have respective RRPs of £60,350 ($76,161) and £64,505 ($81,404).

Power is supplied by a single electric motor that produces 204 ps (201 hp/150 kW) on temporary boost and a maximum torque of 247 Nm (182 lb-ft). BMW quotes the 0 to 100 kph (0-62 mph) acceleration as taking 8.6 seconds, stating that the top speed was electronically capped at 170 kph (106 mph). On the WLTP cycle, it has a driving range of 431-476 km (268-296 miles) and a combined power consumption of 18.1-17.1 kWh/100 km (62 miles).

Feeding electrons to the motor located on the front axle is a 64.7 kWh battery pack. Housed within the floor for space-saving purposes and a lower center of gravity, it supports AC charging up to 11 kW, taking 6.5 hours to be juiced up from 0 to 100%. The 22 kW three-phase AC charging is optionally available, cutting the charging time to 3 hours and 45 minutes. The battery can also sip electrons at up to 130 kW with DC charging, taking 29 minutes to be juiced up from 10 to 80% at a fast-charging station.

Despite the entry-level status of the new iX1 eDrive20, the model features a comprehensive range of standard gear. Here, BMW mentions stuff such as the two-zone climate control, navigation, the brand's latest operating system, and over-the-air functions. The company's Curved Display is also on deck, mixing the 10.7-inch Control Display and the 10.25-inch Information Display under a single pane of glass. The model is also equipped with a generous host of safety systems.

In the United Kingdom, BMW’s iX1 eDrive20 is already available to order, and the deliveries will start in November. In its homeland of Germany, it has a starting price of €47,900 (equal to $51,693), undercutting the xDrive30 by €6,900 ($7,446). There is still no word on a possible launch in the United States. The electric version of the X1 comes to life at the Regensburg factory in Germany, in all configurations, next to its siblings powered by fossil fuels. The third-gen X1 is also made in other countries, like Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and India. Both share the UKL2 platform with the 2 Series Gran Coupe, 1 Series, 2 Series Active Tourer, X1, MINI Countryman, and Clubman.
