The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014 will surely bring together some of the best cars of the moment alongside some of the best drivers out there to take them up the famous hill.
BMW already announced part of its line-up for the event but kept a bit of mystery around some of the aspects of its presence there, saying just that ‘some new M models’ will be up for display, in its official press release. That, of course, started the ever present rumor mill once again.
Some sources on the internet claim that the M4 Convertible won’t be making its debut at the New York Auto Show in April but rather in the UK, at the famous festival. That would mean that we’d have to wait until the end of June to see the drop-top version of the new M car which is, of course, a possibility.
This could also mean that we could get to see the concept M4 Convertible at NY and the production version at Goodwood. It's a really long shot but it could happen as the concept car wasn't unveiled up until now. Sure, the launch of the production model could also be done without seeing the concept before hand, as we already have a very good idea as to what it will look like.
Other sources claim that there will be a special 30-year edition M5 introduced at this venue, one that would celebrate the iconic model that was originally launched in E28 guise in February 1984 at the Amsterdam Auto Show.
The original M5 had an 535i chassis and used the BMW M1 engine, in this application making 282 HP and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) of torque. Therefore, if there is an anniversary model in the works, expect it to have some relation to the original M car, the M1.
A while back we said that the M4 Convertible might be revealed at Paris, this Autumn and not in the US. However, recent spyshots seem to confirm the possibility of seeing the new M car in the flesh a bit sooner. No word from BMW just yet. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we get more info.
