Some recent rumors coming from Germany claim that BMW is planning a surprise unveiling of the Convertible M4 at the New York Auto Show in April but we’re rather reluctant.
Better said, we were reluctant as the latest spyshots of the upcoming drop top seem to confirm the rumors. The car we’re looking at here was wearing minimal camouflage that was focused around elements we already know and, to make things even more interesting, it’s a US-spec model.

You can tell that this is destined for the North American continent by the reflectors positioned on the front bumpers, a minor detail that doesn’t exist in Europe.

The good news is that it will be keeping the hardtop folding roof which translates into a heavier overall car but also added practicality for those cold winter days that could turn out to be quite pesky as most East Coast Americans found out this year.

As for the specs, don’t expect anything above what the Coupe and Sedan models are already showing. The same 3-liter twin turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine will be used, making the same 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque.

However, since the weight factor will be different, the Coupe being the lighter choice here, the new car will do the 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint slower, probably by around 0.1 or 0.2 seconds.
