Various sources around Germany are claiming that the new BMW M4 Convertible might make a surprise appearance in the flesh at the New York Auto Show, next month.
The venue, that is set to begin on April 18 is already having quite a big line-up from BMW that was confirmed by officials. Amongst them you’ll find the world premiere of the new X4 and the North American debuts of the LCI X3 and the 4 Series Gran Coupe.

With the Convertible M4 things would be complete, adding an M vehicle to the already impressive list. However, allow us to be a bit reticent towards such an early launch.

After all, the 4 Series Convertible was launched towards the end of 2013 and brining the new M4 out so early would be a rather hasty decision. On the other hand, launching it now would mean the dealerships get an extra summer to sell it, making for possible better numbers.

As for the specs, the same powertrain will be used, featuring a 3-liter biturbo 6-cylinder inline engine making 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque hooked up to a manual 6-speed gearbox or a 7-speed DCT automatic. Considering the added weight of the foldable roof, expect the benchmark speeds to be achieved in a slightly longer time by around 0.2 seconds, making it a 4.3 second car with the automatic and 4.5 one with the manual.
