General Motors loves to use the same platform for different kinds of models. Sometimes, that passion even rearranges the natural order of things into something else entirely.
For example, GM introduced its new flexible global platform D2XX more than a decade ago and is focused on compact vehicle architectures while acting as a successor to the renowned Delta II and mid-size GM Theta platforms. It underpins passenger cars like the Chevy Cruze and Opel Astra K but also features the likes of Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain.

If you think about it, that is quite intriguing, especially if you also think about the related first-generation Buick Envision, the inaugural Chinese-built GM vehicle to be sold in America. Back to the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain, the former was a mid-size crossover SUV from 2004 to 2017, but the third generation turned it into a compact CUV alongside the second-generation GMC Terrain.

Speaking of the latter, it was introduced by GMC at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit for the 2018MY. Then, it received the mid-cycle refresh in 2021 following the 2020 economic crisis debacle as a 2022MY. As such, we can easily imagine it won't be long before General Motors greenlights the third iteration for the 2025 or 2026 model year.

Interestingly, that's also the exact vision of the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. As such, the good folks over at a newly-established FutureAutoVisions channel on YouTube are not only committed to "cutting-edge ideas that will shape the future of transportation," but they also want us to check out their dreams with the third GMC Terrain. As always, we are dealing with AI-assisted design projects, and the 2025 or 2026 GMC Terrain is no different either.

Per tradition, the resident pixel master gives us not one or two design project visions. Instead, they cycle through at least ten or more – eleven on this particular occasion. Thus, it is pretty hard to resist selecting a favorite, and certainly enough – you can also categorize them. For example, the closest renderings to a traditional GMC Terrain are the first and ninth concept ideas, while the one with the most adventurous presence is the fifth option.

However, our personal favorite – and you are always free to disagree – is the eighth concept design. Yes, it clearly shows that AI assistance was heavily involved in the making of, but it also brings the compact crossover SUV into new territory from the design standpoint. All in all, it's not a bad effort – though we would also love to see just one or two visions from more angles rather than ten or more, always from the same POV. So, what do you think – could the next generation GMC Terrain look like any of these unofficial design projects?
