2024 is the final year for the second-generation Terrain. As expected of an automobile at the end of its production life cycle, General Motors couldn't be bothered with too many updates from the 2023 model.
In fact, the order guide for the 2024 GMC Terrain lists two notable changes. Riptide Metallic and Downpour Metallic joined the exterior color palette, which further includes Deep Bronze Metallic, Sterling Metallic, Volcanic Red Tintcoat, Ebony Twilight Metallic, Summit White, and White Frost Tricoat. The big news, however, is that most trim levels are more affordable.

As per GMC's configurator, the SLE and SLT grades cost $1,200 more than before. The 2024 model year AT4 is $505 more affordable compared to the 2023 equivalent, whereas pricing for the luxed-up Denali remains unchanged. At press time, pricing for the SLE starts at $30,095 with FWD or $1,600 more for AWD.

What are you getting for your hard-earned money? The list begins with 17-inch aluminum wheels in silver, mounted with all-season tires. The GMC Pro Safety suite bundles IntelliBeam headlights, Following Distance Indicator, Front Pedestrian Braking, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, and – of course – Lane Departure Warning. Both front- and all-wheel-drive versions rely on a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mill and a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The 1.5er in question is referred to as LSD, which is a rather unfortunate regular production order code because a limited-slip differential isn't even available. Capable of towing up to 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms), the Terrain belts out 175 horsepower at 5,800 revolutions per minute and 203 pound-feet (275 Nm) of torque from 2,000 to 4,000 revolutions per minute.

The main difference between the LSD and previous LYX is the direct fuel injection system, which operates at 35 MPa rather than 20 MPa. Currently available from $34,095 (sans destination charge), the SLT trim level comes with a hands-free power liftgate, a heated steering wheel, and the Memory Package that comprises two driver presets for the driver seat and side mirrors.

GMC further sweetens the deal with 18-inch wheels, fog lamps, turn signal indicators for the side mirrors, roof-mounted side rails, and 8.0 inches of touchscreen infotainment as opposed to 7.0 for the SLE grade. The biggest automaker of the Big Three in Detroit lures prospective customers to the AT4 with the promise of all-terrain capability, although said trim doesn't hold a candle to the Ford Bronco Sport Badlands.

Level up to the Denali, and you're presented with real burnished aluminum trim, French-stitched leather front seats, way too much chrome for the exterior, a head-up display, and many more. Somewhat curious for a small crossover, the Terrain isn't frugal. The EPA's combined estimates are 26 and 25 mpg (9.0 and 9.4 l/100 km), numbers that make the Honda CR-V look economical (30/29 mpg or 7.8/8.1 l/100 km).
