Aston Martin The Americas identified a problem with a handful of early DBX sport utility vehicles. In production since July 2020 for the 2021 model year, the DBX hails from St Athan in South Wales.
The factory experienced a shortage of parts between October 23, 2020 and November 17, 2020. Partly finished vehicles were later moved to rework bays to have the required parts installed. However, the build logs for these particular vehicles leave much to be desired. As it happens, the torquing tools and torques applied to the front propeller shaft fasteners had not been recorded. Is it a big issue, though?

As per documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it surely is. On February 26, 2024, a customer in Switzerland experienced a breakdown. Following the recovery, the Aston Martin dealership identified loose front prop shaft bolts. In turn, the loose propeller shaft caused the crankshaft position sensor to become unplugged, therefore explaining the breakdown.

Aston Martin promptly started investigating. As part of the investigation, the automaker identified a similar occurrence on July 4, 2022 in the US. The Aston Martin Technical Review Group and Critical Concerns Review Group worked their magic throughout March 2024. The Recall Committee then determined that a recall had to be conducted.

The Gaydon-based manufacturer determined that a little under 20 vehicles had been produced outside the normal production process, of which 11 were shipped to the United States market. Of those 11, one has since been remedied. The remaining 10 will have their fasteners checked and – if necessary – torqued to the correct value at no charge to the customer.

Dealers have already been informed about recall 24V-248, whereas owner notifications will be mailed no later than April 22, 2024. The repair procedure takes approximately an hour to complete. Aston Martin claims that the process for parts shortages and recorded torque applications outside of lineside fitment had been updated in April 2023.

Knowing Aston Martin, affected owners might have already been contacted by their dealers regarding this recall. Those who didn't and also happen to read autoevolution can easily determine whether their 2021 model year DBXs are recalled or not by entering the VIN on the NHTSA's recall portal.

Following the DB11-replacing DB12 and the facelifted Vantage, the DBX will also receive a big overhaul for model year 2025. Think redesigned interior with touchscreen infotainment, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, more structural stiffness, a fancier suspension setup, and so forth.

Prospective customers should also expect more oomph from the hand-built V8, which comes from Affalterbach in Germany. The Mercedes-AMG M177 develops 707 ps in the 2024 Aston Martin DBX707, meaning 697 horsepower. The regular DBX, on the other hand, makes 542 hp. Exclusive to China, the DBX Straight-Six uses a non-AMG sixer (the M256) that belts out 435 ps (429 hp).
