Aston Martin DS9 Rolls Bars Get… Prematurely Sprung

An Aston Martin DB9 Volante made a spectacle of itself this weekend by… prematurely popping on its crash protection. Easy there sparkie, no need to get all excited!
This picture, probably taken at a Goodwood event, shows what happens when the roll bars on a roadster are activated when they're not supposed to. Roll bars are fitted as standard to all mass market roadsters. In the event of a rollover crash, the heads of the occupants would otherwise hit the pavement causing instant death. These devices are thus quite useful to have, but they sometimes activate by prematurely when the traction control systems believe you're about to crash.

So when you're about to have a crash with the top up in a convertible, the roll bars go up through the glass? Give the engineer who made that a medal for… creativity.

Is this a British made part going wrong? No, if this were a British bit, the bars would have blasted completely out of the car, like the ejector seats on the James Bong DB5. From the plastic look of the thing, this has "Made in China" written all over it. Let's hope this doesn't happen in the Vanquish Volante as well!

The source of the photo is just as cool as the picture itself. Hannah Burgess is a British auto journalist, keeping a blog called thefemalepetrolhead.com. Yes folks, they are a rare breed, but they do exist. To top it all off, Hannah is the proud owner of a C43 AMG, the first V-powered C-Class AMG.
