What's it like to be the richest man on the face of the planet? If you're not the bookworm type or haven't yet had the time to read the new Elon Musk biography, the answer will come in a much more digestible medium: a feature film.
There's a new biopic in the works, and this time, it's based on Elon Musk, the wearer of a gazillion hats and one of the most controversial public figures of our time. You might know him as the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, or as the man who bought Twitter on a whim (and reportedly overpaid for it because of that), or the controversial free-speed activist, or the man on a mission to help with the repopulation of Earth and later relocation of the newer generation to Mars.
If you're a Musk supporter, you might also know that he has a biography out by writer Walter Isaacson, whose previous credits include the Steve Jobs biography. In a complete circle, the latter was brought to the big screen in 2015 under Danny Boyle's direction.
Here's to hoping the Musk story fares better than Steve Jobs because it's also coming to a theater near you. The Isaacson book serves as the basis for the biopic, now in development at A24 with director Darren Aronofsky attached. Aronofsky is onboard just as a director for the time being, but he's known for co-writing the scripts he works on.
Aronofsky's previous work includes box office and critical hits like Black Swan, The Wrestler, Mother!, the terrifying Requiem for a Dream, and the more recent – and current Oscar buzz-getter – The Whale. Aronofsky has a distinctive filmmaking style that helps to turn painfully mundane storylines into memorable, eerie experiences that linger long after you come out of the theater.
Granted, there's nothing painfully mundane about Musk's life or work. His is a rise-and-rise story like few others, which means it'll be even more impressive with the right material and under the right director. A24, the studio handling the project, is also known for taking huge creative risks and delivering beautifully on them.
In short, the Elon Musk biopic holds huge promise. The best part is that Musk himself seems onboard with the idea, if not directly involved, saying on X (ex-Twitter) that he was "glad” Aronofsky was doing it because "he is one of the best." Can't argue with that.
On a more realistic note, it's best if you don't start planning your outfit for the premiere night just yet.
The same trade publication lists the biopic as "in development," which means it might be at least another two to three years before it comes out, and that's a best-case scenario. As of the time of press, Aronofsky has just one project in the works, and it’s not this one, meaning his attachment to the Elon Musk biopic isn't even official yet.

Glad Darren is doing it. He is one of the best.
