Some Tesla investors and fans have publicly asked the EV maker to spend money on advertising so more people can learn about its all-electric cars. They received no official response. But here's Elon Musk doing some clever promotion – he arrived at the F1 Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, behind the steering wheel of a Cybertruck. That's guaranteed to attract some attention!
Max Verstappen won the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, cementing his number-one position and securing this year's championship win. There was no need to give 100% on the track, but the Dutchman still did it.
He proved that competing for the top spot is in his DNA by scoring his 50th race win. For the time being, nothing seems to stop Red Bull's racing driver, not even boos coming from the crowd.
But besides great sportsmanship, a thrilling race, and an overall exciting vibe coupled with Texas' unmistakable ambiance, something interesting happened – Elon Musk arrived at the event and was spotted driving the much-hyped Cybertruck!
The executive watched the race with one of his kids but ensured that F1 attendees could see what he was driving. The all-electric pickup truck was parked close to the grandstands. It is estimated that over 400,000 people gathered to see the race live, so at least a few thousand (if not more) must have spotted the divisive-looking zero-emission vehicle.
Does that mean that Tesla finally advertised a product? No. Is it a great way to introduce more people to your product? Yes. The executive might have made controversial decisions in the past, but this is not one of them. This time, Musk made a smart move.
This public appearance comes very recently after Tesla's CEO said that they "dug their own grave with the Cybertruck" and expressed some worries about the state of the economy. His gloomy tone, the recent price cuts, and the Q3 sales data made investors pull back and reassess. The stock price dropped by around 15% in just one week. That also meant Elon Musk lost over $20 billion because he owns nearly 13% of Tesla.
Given everything that's happening and the fact that building the bulletproof and very angular Cybertruck is challenging, it's unlikely that pre-order holders will see the $39,900 price tag promised in 2019. We expect it to align more with the Model X's cost.
It remains to be seen what's what at or after the delivery event scheduled for November 30. Maybe the automaker will release the specs and confirm pricing ahead of the much-awaited public launch of the vehicle.
Finally, actor and Porsche aficionado Patrick Dempsey, Prince Harry, and actor Adam Driver also attended the F1 race in Austin. Maybe they'll also get to drive the Cybertruck at some point.
