Buick is banking hard on crossovers and the all-new Envision could be its hot ticket. This is the second-generation model, makings its debut on the web today ahead of its market launch in early 2021.
The new SUV looks like a substantial improvement over the older model which, let's face it, was boring to look at. If somebody told us the 2021 Envision is based on the Mazda CX-5, we'd believe them, as it has the same strong, wide shoulders. Affordable 4x4s with coke bottle design are pretty rare.

If it looks wider and lower than before, that's because it actually is. Buick is hoping the sporty proportions will attract new buyers in this increasingly competitive segment.

Since this model is expected to debut in early 2021, we only have a few of those juicy technical details everybody likes. Buick says the standard powertrain will be a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, likely the same unit that gives the Envision 252 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The engine is also in the similarly sized Cadillac XT4. Our concern is that many Japanese or Korean rivals will offer more power or better performance, especially the upcoming Genesis GV70.

Something else we know for sure is that Envision will be the first Buick with a new 10-inch infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality as standard equipment. Numerous safety systems have been named as well, including Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Alert, Rear Park Assist, and HD Rear Vision Camera among others.

“The all-new 2021 Envision is part of Buick’s strategy to grow its family of premium SUVs,” said Duncan Aldred, VP of Global Buick and GMC. “It joins the new 2020 Encore GX, which offers safety, functionality and styling tailored around the size and space preferences of today’s small and compact SUV buyers.”
