Alfa Romeo is a stalwart of the automotive industry. Rescued by the Italian government in the 1930s and then acquired by Fiat in the 1980s, the Biscione marque entered the Stellantis family back in January 2021.
Headquartered in Amsterdam, the Italian-American-French corporation has big plans for the future. Both Fiat Chrysler and Groupe PSA believe that EVs are the future, which explains why Alfa Romeo will go fully electric by the year 2027.

The Italian marque's transition to electric will start on April 10 with the Milano, a B-segment crossover that indirectly replaces the MiTo supermini. The Mi in MiTo stands for Milan, which makes the newcomer's nameplate all the more inspired. However, the Milano isn't 100 percent Italian.

To be produced in Poland, the subcompact crossover features a Groupe PSA-developed platform. Alfa Romeo has already confirmed an electric version, but as expected of Stellantis, the Milano will also be offered with at least one internal combustion engine. Our spy photographers have recently captured one such prototype in Italy, a prototype that sports – get this – a twin exhaust.

Although a sporty touch, a couple of exhaust outlets for a three-cylinder engine is overcompensating. The only powerplant compatible with the Common Modular Platform is the 1.2-liter THP, which is codenamed EB2ADTX in the Fiat 600's case or EB2ADTD in the better-looking Jeep Avenger.

Jeep offers the Avenger in three flavors: electric, mild hybrid, or purely internal combustion. With Alfa Romeo aiming to become completely electric by 2027, the mild-hybrid unit seems best for the Milano. Said engine develops 101 ps (100 horsepower) and 205 Nm (151 pound-feet) of torque. A dual-clutch transmission comes standard by default with the mild-hybrid mill. Only the combustion-only version features a stick shift.

A significantly different vehicle from the MiTo, which came with three doors exclusively, the Milano will top around 400 kilometers (almost 250 miles) of driving range in electric form. Both the Avenger and 600 sport a 50-kWh battery pack, with both of them hitting 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour) in around 9 seconds. Top speed? That would be 150 clicks (93 mph), thank you!

Back in October 2022, the Jeep brand took to the Paris Motor Show to unveil the Avenger 4x4 concept. Leaked pictures of the Milano's instrument cluster suggest a dual-motor option, but only time will determine whether those pics were doctored or not. We also have to remember that a second electric motor worsens driving range, which is one of the highest priorities of every prospective customer.

Pictured on Goodyear tires, the Milano is certain to help Alfa Romeo's rather abysmal sales in Europe and the United Kingdom. The Milano won't be sold in the US, though, because the Common Module Platform was not designed with the US in mind.
