With the first seven best-selling nameplates in America being trucks and SUVs in 2023, it is clear that passenger cars are not exactly a priority anymore. However, it seems that even when you have a few CUVs and SUVs, they're still not enough.
Last year, the crown was held onto by the eternal Ford F-Series, followed by the traditional runner-up series – Chevrolet Silverado and Ram trucks. After that, Toyota's RAV4 placed fourth, of course, followed by the surprising Tesla Model Y, which is also Europe's best-selling nameplate and one the highest-selling models in the world. Sixth was Honda's CR-V, and seventh came the GMC Sierra, while the first passenger car – the iconic Toyota Camry – was only eighth.

As such, you would say that a carmaker with two passenger cars and an additional four high riders would be safe from any trouble. Well, don't count on Mitsubishi to be that automaker because they sold pennies last year in America – a little over 87k vehicles. To put that into the proper perspective, Honda – which isn't their biggest rival in the US market – sold in January 2024 alone some 84k vehicles! Thus, we can easily say that Mitsubishi is but a mere shadow of its former self. This is a bit disappointing, especially since enough fans are left out there to dream of its potential American revitalization. Both in the real world as well as the imaginative realm of digital car content creators, as it turns out.

By the way, we recently heard a whisper that Mitsubishi's corner office head honchos are thinking about ditching the Mirage nameplate in America – which is one of the least expensive hatchback and sedan automobiles money can buy right now. So, perhaps, they intend to replace it with something a lot bigger – like a hypothetical revival of 'Project America,' Mitsubishi's Endeavor? This mid-size crossover SUV was built in Normal, Illinois, at MMNA from 2003 to 2011 with a 3.8-liter V6 under the hood but failed to gain enough traction to warrant a replacement at the time.

Now, Philippines-based virtual artist Enoch Gabriel Gonzalez, known as enochgonzalesdesigns on social media, wants to give Mitsu CUV fans a CGI moment to rejoice with the return of the Endeavor as an eight-seater CUV that could represent a viable alternative to the new field of rugged off-road mid-sizers like the Ford Bronco 4-Door, Jeep Wrangler, or the Toyota 4Runner rather than fighting with the numerous other crossovers like the Toyota Grand Highlander or Ford Explorer.

Unofficially positioned above the current 2024 Outlander and Outlander PHEV as a hypothetical new flagship, this Mitsubishi could bring in fatter profits for the Japanese company if the company makes it compelling enough in the low-to-mid $40k range. So, would you want the Endeavor to come back as an eight-seater like this one? Also, what powertrain would you feel suitable – another V6 like the original or something new age, like a hybrid or plug-in hybrid setup?
