Audi of America reported 44,226 deliveries in the United States during the first three months of the year. No matter how the Ingolstadt-based company tries to paint it rosy, with BEV sales going up 29%, that's still down 16% year-over-year overall.
Obviously, the brand needs reinforcements – and fast. Luckily, things are starting to move – and that's valid across all segments. For example, they just launched the first-ever Q6 and SQ6 e-tron all-electric models, and obviously, the ICE-powered Audi Q5's third generation is also just around the corner.

There will also be an all-new, first-ever Q9 flagship three-row crossover SUV that will better cater to American customers while fighting the quirky BMW X7 with the hideous split-headlight LCI and the traditionalist Mercedes-Benz GLS. But Audi is not abandoning passenger cars either.

Instead, they are finally ditching the confusing '55 TFSI' or '40 TDI' engine naming scheme and instead want to make us abandon the old ways of the A4, A6, or A8 with a transfer to odd numbers for the ICE-powered models while the even ones will only be used for e-tron models. We think that it sufficed if they used the e-tron moniker for the electric variants, and everyone would have understood, but that's just us – simpletons.

Anyway, that means the upcoming B10 Audi A4 luxury compact executive car series will be transferred to the A5 moniker – which is supposed to get crowded with sedan, station wagon, all-terrain touring, coupe, cabriolet, and Sportback models. Of course, Audi might decide to slim down the model line and abandon some of the body styles, but that remains to be seen during the official reveals.

For sure, the rumor mill is certain they won't drop the feisty S5 and RS 5 models. So, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators is already hard at work envisioning their unofficial looks. More precisely, the good folks over at the AutoYa info channel on YouTube have imagined the CGI looks of the potentially upcoming 2025 or 2026 Audi RS 5 Avant, the smaller brother of the current Audi RS 6 Avant and the potential foe of the G81 BMW M3 Touring.

Do remember to take all of this with a healthy dose of salt as nothing is official from Audi just yet regarding the fate of the A5 series, but the host believes that Audi Sport will electrify the current 2.9-liter V6 TFSI engine used in the RS 4 to make it a potential monster with up to 700 horsepower. That's way more than what the 503-hp BMW M3 Competition xDrive Touring has to offer, and it's even above the Audi RS 6 Avant performance or GT special edition.

So, if you ask us, it's a little hard to believe – even with a PHEV setup. On the other hand, the resident pixel master did a fine job guessing the potential looks of the Audi RS 5 Avant design based on spies of the A5 and S5 series. As always, there are also a lot of color options for the exterior – and they even shared a glimpse of the cockpit. So, what do you think? Will Audi dare to trespass into mid-size territory with such a powerful RS 5? Or are they simply going to try and give the G81 BMW M3 Touring a great run for its Bavarian money?
