If you're thinking of building a camper van and budget is not necessarily a problem for you, the easiest way to get your hands on a tiny home on wheels would be to reach out to a specialized conversion company. Some have pre-built floorplans for specific vans, while others create truly bespoke interiors and setups for each of their customers. Today, I'm checking out a personalized build made by a company that fits the latter category: Boulder Campervans.
What we have here is the "Wilson Peak," an AWD Ford Transit with a 148" wheelbase crafted by Boulder Campervans, a specialized conversion company based in Boulder, Colorado. This mobile home was designed as an off-road and off-grid oasis filled with a variety of premium components.

Just like I mentioned earlier, Boulder Campervans designs custom interiors, as it strives to provide superior builds to its customers. One critical part of their process is understanding the client's vision and first bringing it to life via a 3D blueprint. Moreover, each of the units the company produces is prepared for four-season, off-grid adventures.

The Transit van features several upgrades that make going off the beaten path easier. For instance, it rides on Method 701 rims wrapped in BFGoodrich K02 all-terrain tires, a popular choice for off-road vans. Moreover, there's a Van Compass 2-inch suspension upgrade, which also helps with supporting the additional weight.

On the exterior, this Transit Van was outfitted with useful accessories. You won't have any problems off-roading or setting up camp during the dark, as there's a 50-inch LED light bar at the front, as well as pod lights with 360-degree lighting.

On the roof, you'll discover a rack holding the lights I just mentioned, four solar panels, and a Fiamma F45S awning. Exterior storage solutions are always nice to have on camper vans. In this case, at the rear, you'll notice an Aluminess spare tire carrier/ladder combo and an Aluminess bike tray mount. Other notable exterior elements are two flares designed to increase the bedroom space, each complete with one slide-screen window.

While shorter van versions, like the 144" Sprinter or this 148" Transit, are more suitable for off-road travel, they don't offer a ton of room to devise the interior. Still, Boulder Campervans managed to fit many creature comforts inside without making the interior feel cluttered.

Pop the sliding door open, and you'll notice that part of the entrance is occupied by a kitchen counter. The builders integrated 120 V and USB outlets into it and also added a Lagun table bracket so you can bring the table outside and enjoy a meal or some coffee.

Some van dwellers prefer separating the driver's cabin from the living space so they can give the interior a more homey feel. However, in a van this compact, it doesn't make that much sense, as you lose valuable space. Talking about space, the headliner shelf above the driver's cabin has some room to store stuff.

Instead, Boulder Campervans mounted the driver's and passenger's seats on swivels. Behind the driver's seat, you'll find the dinette area, comprising a swivel table and a two-person bench seat with seatbelts. This is where you can sit down and eat, work on your laptop, or even play some board games with friends, as four people can sit around and reach the table.

In case you don't want the extra seating options or you require additional walking room, you can lift the bench seat up and fold it near the wall. Moreover, above this dinette area, you'll discover a shelf with a USB charging point nearby, as well as a tiny cabinet. Another notable element is a hook, perfect for hanging clothes.

Next, we have the kitchen, located on the passenger side of the interior. It features a beautiful white Corian countertop, a dual-burner induction stove, and a stainless-steel sink with a cover. On the side, the kitchen counter integrates an 85-liter (22-gallon) Isotherm fridge, 120 V and USB outlets, and labeled switches for the interior and exterior lights.

Opposite the kitchen, you'll notice a floor-to-ceiling unit holding a pull-out composting toilet, an overhead microwave, a drawer, a closet, and the control panel for the van's utilities. The latter comprises a Victron control unit, a Victron display that lets you know everything power-related, and a display where you can control the temperature inside the rig. By the way, there are two Maxxair fans mounted on the ceiling.

And finally, we have the bedroom space, boasting a twin-size bed. The flares really help make additional room, allowing you to sleep from side to side. They also leave some room for you to store bits and bobs, serving as tiny nightstands.

For storage, you can use three spacious overhead cabinets on the passenger side. Other notable details are two reading lights, three ceiling LED pucks, and a smoke detector.

Boulder Campervans is serious about making its vans off-grid-capable. You'll find the utility systems installed in the garage, accessible from both inside and outside the van. Like in most camper vans, the space in the middle is used for storage, while the sides are occupied by boxes holding the electrical and plumbing systems.

The box on the left side houses the power system. It comprises fuse and breaker panels, but its highlights are three 200 Ah lithium batteries (more than enough to support off-grid travel), a DC/DC charger that allows the system to charge while driving, a 3,000 W inverter/charger, and solar charge controllers connected to solar panels on the roof.

On the opposite side, the plumbing system consists of an outdoor shower, a 20-gallon (76-liter) freshwater tank, and a Rixon B5E Heater, which is fed directly from the vehicle's fuel tank. Moreover, this heater serves a dual purpose, not only providing hot water but also heating up the interior.

All in all, Boulder Campervans created a cozy and ultra-functional tiny home on wheels. It's ready to take you off-road and off-grid in style and comfort. Regarding pricing, the lowest option you can choose on the company's website is $50,000 to $75,000 (€46,268 to €69,401), while the highest is $175,000+ (€161,936+).
