Chrysler Group LLC has issued a recall for 278,222 pickup trucks and SUVs in the United States over bad rear axles.
According to a National Highway Traffic Satefy Administration press release, the recall was issued for a possibly loose rear axle pinion nut due to the omission of an adhesive patch, which can cause "loss of vehicle control and a crash with little warning".
Affected vehicles include Ram 1500 (2009-2012) and Dodge Dakota (2009-2011) pickup trucks as well as 2009 built Chrysler Aspen/Dodge Durango SUVs. Pinion nut retainer will be installed free of charge in Chrysler dealerships.
This is not the first faulty axle pinion nut caused recall issued by Chrysler, with nearly 45,000 Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota pickup trucks being brought in for remedy in October 2012.
In other Ram related news, the 1500 model will be the first modern pickup to come with a diesel engine later this year.
