Sales of mid-size cars aren't what they used to be in America, but the sector tries to hold on tight to the top five every quarter – usually following the lead of compact CUVs, full-size trucks, plus large and subcompact crossovers.
Fifth place isn't too shabby in this age of passion for crossovers, SUVs, and trucks – especially since many automakers have abandoned the fight for passenger car survival. Ford, for example, only has the iconic Mustang on sale. At the same time, Chevrolet is about to retire the Camaro and will be left only with the C8 Corvette sports car and the affordable Chevrolet Malibu.

Speaking of the latter, the $25k American sedan is fighting for supremacy with an entire roster of Asian automakers and their popular models. The Toyota Camry leads the gang, of course, followed closely by the Honda Accord and a bunch of others. But what if you're not willing to blend in with the vast majority of Camry and Accord users?

Then perhaps it's best to select a quirky one – such as the Nissan Altima or Subaru Legacy. Interestingly, that conundrum appears to bewilder the imaginative realm of digital car content creators, too. As such, just recently, we saw a couple of like-minded YouTube channels - AutomagzTV and AutomagzPro – which have recently shared their visions about the mid-size class's best choices when selecting a 2025 model year.

The good folks over at AutomagzTV decided to root for an all-new 2025 Subaru Legacy family sedan to fight the Honda Accord. Now in its seventh generation, the natural world's Legacy is built on the Subaru Global Platform and is related to the Subaru Ascent. It recently entered the 2024 model year specification, and it starts even lower than a dirt-cheap $25,100 2024MY Chevy Malibu – at $24,895.

However, in the parallel universes of vehicular CGI, it morphs from a quirky-styled Japanese sedan into a sleek limousine that takes to minimalistic extremes the Subaru design ethos – probably with a bit of help from AI software. Meanwhile, the peeps over at AutomagzPro have other thoughts and believe the sixth-generation Nissan Altima is actually in dire need of a design revolution to fight the upcoming Toyota Camry better, for example.

Their interpretation is also quite different from what Nissan showcases in the real world with the L34 sixth generation. Logic dictates that Altima, presented in early 2018 as a 2019 model year, will be the first to change iterations – and perhaps it will incorporate some of the design elements proposed by this unofficial rendering because this one is a lot subtler.

Of course, nothing is official just yet about the next Subaru Legacy or Nissan Altima, so do take all this with a grain of salt. Still, nobody says that we can't choose a favorite – so which of these hypothetical four-door sedans would you take home if given the chance?
