Lexus brings the first model in its lineup powered by the fifth-generation hybrid system. The compact crossover will roll out under the UX 300h designation. The entire UX range has been updated with new tech.
The model is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that works alongside two motor-generators in what is the company’s fifth-generation Lexus Hybrid System. It delivers a total of 196 horsepower (199 metric horsepower) to either the front or rear axles through a planetary-type continuously variable transmission.

The front motor brings 111 horsepower (113 metric horsepower), while the one mounted on the rear axle adds 40 horsepower (41 metric horsepower).

The UX 300h is not only more potent, but also quicker, now doing the 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) run in 7.9 seconds for the all-wheel drive setup and 8.0 seconds for the front-wheel drive. A 60-cell lithium-ion battery pack, located under the rear seat, replaces the previous nickel-metal hydride unit.

Lexus also came up with updated tech and safety features. The shift-by-wire technology has been introduced in the UXh lineup.

The looks of the UX have not changed much. The front fascia sports the spindle grille with block-shape mesh pattern integrating individual elements that gradually change in shape and size as they radiate out from the central Lexus badge. The grille is flanked by LED daytime running lights in an arrowhead motif, with 120 LEDs, placed above the headlights.

The wheel arch moldings play a dual role. They are designed to protect the body of the car from flying gravel off the tires as well as channel airflow to reduce turbulence and lift.

At the opposite end, unique Aero Stabilizing Blade Lights start at the top of the rear fenders, going across the rear. A wing-type spoiler at the rear edge enhances the sporty look.

A new exterior color showed up in the lineup, the Copper Crest, available for all trims. The standard variant rides on 18-inch wheels with run-flat tires. Lexus fits five-spoke alloy wheels with a dark gray and machined finish on the Base and Premium versions.

Meanwhile, the F SPORTs get the split-five-spoke alloy wheels. Customers will also be able to order either a gloss black and machined finish or a matte black finish.

The carmaker promises a more refined cabin for the UX 300h. There is a new layout of buttons on the door panels in the company of chrome-finished ornamentation.

The driver can receive the relevant information via the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, which is standard for the Premium and F SPORT, while the Base model gets a 7-inch multi-information display. Five USB ports are on board, and so is the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Lexus will announce pricing for its brand-new UX 300h in 2024, shortly before the car goes on sale.
