Revealed in December 2013, the Gallardo-replacing Huracan is Lamborghini's most successful mid-engine production model to date. In excess of 25,000 examples of the breed have been produced to date, but alas, the Huracan may not reach 30,000 deliveries by the end of 2024.
The reason why is the LB63x, which is due in the latter half of 2024 for the 2025 model year. Unfortunately, its actual name isn't known yet. Similar in footprint to the Huracan, the newcomer is believed to feature a carbon-intensive chassis derived from the Aventador-succeeding Revuelto.

Lamborghini calls it monofuselage, and Lamborghini further states that it's 10 percent lighter than the Aventador's chassis. The front structure is carbon fiber compared to aluminum for the Aventador, whereas the rearmost part is made of aluminum. Given that the yet-to-be-named LB63x slots below the Revuelto, chances are the front structure will switch to aluminum alloys as well to cut production costs.

Spied testing outside the Sant'Agata Bolognese factory, this heavily camouflaged prototype features Gallardo headlight-inspired stickers. A nice throwback, but still, bear in mind that LB63x is a completely different animal from its forerunners. From the standpoint of exterior styling, it's closer to the V12-powered Revuelto flagship than the V10-powered Huracan or the Gallardo before it.

As far as the oily bits are concerned, the LB63x is equipped with a twin-turbocharged V8 rather than a free-breathing V10. The new engine is reportedly derived from the 4.0-liter V8 of the Urus, which is rated at 657 horsepower (666 ps) at 6,000 rpm and 627 pound-feet (850 Nm) of twist at 2,300 rpm.

Speaking of which, both versions of the Urus will be discontinued by the end of the year in favor of a plug-in hybrid. The Urus PHEV is – obviously enough – twinned with the 2024 Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid. The German automaker quotes 729 horsepower (739 ps) and 950 Nm (700 pound-feet). The Porker's engine is rated at 591 ponies, whereas the electric motor develops 174 ponies.

It's easy to imagine Lamborghini's electrified Urus with 740 horsepower (750 ps), more so due to the BMW XM Label's declared maximum output (738 horsepower or 748 ps). There's no denying the plug-in hybrid part of the LB63x is completely different from that of the Urus PHEV, and the same can be said about the dual-clutch transmission compared to the ZF-supplied automatic of the Urus PHEV.

The big question is, how many electric motors and how much power? The Revuelto has three of them: two for the front wheels and one on the transversally-mounted transmission for the rear wheels. Because the Huracan is available in both rear- and all-wheel-drive flavors, the LB63x may follow suit.

Regarding power, over 800 horsepower is a rough yet plausible guesstimate. Remember that the rear-wheel-drive Ferrari 296 belts out 819 horsepower (830 ps) from six cylinders, a displacement of 3.0 liters, and a single electric drive unit. The only other direct rival of the LB63x is the McLaren Artura, which also sports a 120-degree sixer. The British alternative offers 671 horsepower (680 ps).
