Refreshed for the 2024 model year, the Chevrolet Silverado HD prepares to enter the 2025 model year. The biggest change over 2024 is the Silverado HD Trail Boss, an off-road package that can be had with either the L8T 6.6-liter gasoline V8 or the L5P 6.6-liter Duramax turbo diesel V8.
L8T is the only member of the Gen V small-block engine family with a cast-iron block. Introduced for the 2020 model year, the direct-injected V8 develops 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet (629 Nm) on regular gas. The Duramax is a bit punchier, though, with General Motors advertising 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet (1,322 Nm).

Both are paired with a 10-speed automatic. General Motors curiously advertises the tenner as being an Allison tranny, but it's not made by Allison. The folks at Allison merely allowed GM to use Allison branding for this heavy-duty transmission, which is referred to as the GM Hydra-Matic 10L1000.

The Silverado HD Trail Boss package is available on LT and LTZ trucks. In addition to Z71 suspension, the Silverado HD Trail Boss further sweetens the deal with on-/off-road tires, 20-inch wheels in black, skid plates, Trail Boss decals on the bedsides, as well as red recovery hooks. Available features include power running boards, but only for the better-equipped LTZ grade.

Unfortunately, the Detroit-based automaker published a single photograph of the heavy-duty Trail Boss. The rest of the lineup was treated to relatively small changes, beginning with available parking sensors for the WT, Custom, and LT. Said parking sensors come standard on the ZR2.

Also standard is adaptive cruise control on the High Country, whereas the Midnight Edition levels up to 20-inch wheels. Last but not least, the Custom grade can be optioned with the new Black-Out Package. Speaking of which, the Silverado HD Trail Boss flaunts blacked-out badging, a gloss-black grille, front bumper, and rear bumper.

The largest automaker of the Big Three in Detroit, as well as the best-selling automaker in the United States of America, says that the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado HD will go on sale this coming summer. There's no pricing information available at the moment of reporting, nor did GM upload the model's order guide on GM Fleet Order Guide.

For 2024, the Silverado 2500 HD starts at $43,400 (sans destination charge). $44,600 is the starting price of the 3500 series, which can tow up to 36,000 pounds (16,329 kilograms). The Silverado 2500 HD is rated at 22,500 pounds (10,206 kilograms). When it comes to payload, GM claims 7,234 pounds (3,281 kilograms) for the 3500 series.

Although the Ford F-Series remains America's favorite pickup truck, General Motors delivered more full-size trucks in 2023. The grand total is 850,885 for the Silverado and technically similar GMC Sierra, whereas the Ford Motor Company delivered 750,789 units of the F-Series in 2023.
