Bar the two 3ers, the Sedan and Touring, which were already facelifted, BMW's premium compact low-slung models are in for a mid-cycle refresh. The lineup, comprising the Coupe, Convertible, and Gran Coupe versions of the 4 Series and the i4 that builds on the latter, will welcome similar updates to the 3 Series.
So far, we've seen the 4ers doing their thing in the open, and now it’s time to cast the light on the electric derivative. Spied in the open, this is the 2025 BMW i4, which will replace the iteration that is not even two years old yet.

Making out the novelties is tricky, for the most part, due to the heavy camouflage hiding the front and rear ends of the premium compact electric sedan. However, it is clear that the headlights sport new graphics. Featuring smaller side vents and a redesigned lower section, the bumper is also new. And if you must know, the large grille isn't going anywhere, not when it comes to this generation, anyway.

The profile looks the same, and that includes the wheels, which appear to be the 18-inch ones equipping the base grade. Although retaining the same shape as before, the taillights also feature revised graphics. We can see that the reflectors are wider and sit further up, and even though we cannot fully see it, the rear bumper is also entirely new. The trunk lid carries over and still has a recessed central area for the license plate.

Since it already features the dual displays, we don't think BMW has prepped anything major for the interior of the facelifted i4. An updated software could be in the cards, perhaps unlocking fresh features, and it's believed that the steering wheel could be new. Look for new trim and upholstery, too, and that is where they will probably draw the line when it comes to the cabin of the electric vehicle.

In the United States, the i4 is offered in the eDrive35, eDrive40, and xDrive40 configurations. The former has 282 hp on tap, and the latter two boast 335 and 396 horsepower, respectively. Topping them all is the M50 variant, which enjoys 536 hp for a 0-60 mph (0-97 kph) in 3.7 seconds, 1.2 seconds faster than the xDrive40. The eDrive35 and eDrive40 can deal with the sprint in 5.8 and 5.4 seconds, respectively.

The most frugal model is the i4 xDrive40, which has a total driving range of 307 miles (494 km), whereas the M50's autonomy is rated at up to 269 miles (433 km). Therefore, if there is anything it needs, it is an updated battery pack to cover more miles between charges, but it remains to be seen if that is part of the mid-cycle refresh. The facelifted i4 is rumored to premiere in 2024.
