Subaru isn't exactly the most prominent Japanese automaker out there. However, it does a good job with what it has at its disposal – most of the time.
If you peek at the brand's American online portal, most nameplates have already reached the 2024 model year – including the Crosstrek, Forester, Outback, and Ascent. The passenger cars quickly followed suit, including the 2024 Impreza and Legacy.

Alone, the 2023 Solterra and the sporty derivatives – BRZ and WRX, soldier on with the current model year. Well, sort of, since the BRZ is already prepared to join the 2024MY roster after it got a roll call at Subiefest California on Sunday, July 23. As such, we now know there's a new BRZ tS variant joining the range, complete with visual tweaks, a high-performance Brembo braking system, STI-tuned suspension, and the arrival of EyeSight Driver Assist Technology on manual-equipped Subies.

However, another Subiefest is looming on the horizon – the Florida edition takes place on October 7, and it will also feature the global debut of the 2024 Subaru WRX TR. We already know that for sure because the Japanese company announced the revival of the moniker last used by the 2007 model year Impreza WRX TR via the classically fashionable pre-release teaser.

The explanation for the 'TR' letters is simple – that's short for tuner-ready, meaning the car should be stripped of all unnecessary amenities in preparation for extensive aftermarket modifications. However, don't expect the 2024 WRX TR to be without AC, alloy wheels, or visual (exterior and interior) tweaks. Instead, the brand is simply taking the tuner duties into its hands and will probably mirror the BRZ tS with new alloy wheels, Brembo brake calipers, and STI-flavored goodies like the suspension and various design tweaks.

Yep, we know it's far from being a fully-fledged 2024 Subaru WRX STI because no one really expects the engineers to wreak havoc under the hood. Instead, the fresh FA24F 2.4-liter turbocharged horizontally opposed four-cylinder boxer engine will probably keep its current rating of 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) without any modifications. However, if we are to believe the rumor mill, the 2024 WRX TR might still appease fans a little bit.

The Halo oto channel on YouTube provides fresh automotive info corroborated with their virtual designs; now, there are some CGI ideas about the WRX TR being a true heir of the previous WRX STI installments, at least visually. And you know what helped everyone and their mother, including toddlers, separate the high-performance WRX STIs from the pack? Yep, that's right, the massive rear wing!

Well, if we are to believe the channel's host and its resident pixel master, the 2024 Subaru WRX TR will arrive in just a few hours at Subiefest Florida alongside Travis Pastrana and Bucky Lasek sporting a massive, proud rear wing. Of course, they could all be mistaken, so do take all of these ideas – including the accompanying renderings – with a pinch of salt.
