Since the start of the year, Toyota has clearly shown the kind of resolve and determination needed to recapture the sales lead from General Motors in the next few months.
The Japanese automaker has launched one novelty after another, from subtle yet interesting introductions like the Prius Prime plug-in hybrid or the entire 2024 Nightshade family to affordable electrified companions like the Corolla Cross Hybrid and from spacious CUVs like the 2024 Grand Highlander to megastars like the N400 Tacoma or 2024 Land Cruiser.

And they are not stopping there, as we have heard rumors that a compact version of the latter is underway to fight the likes of Ford Bronco Sport and Co. Of course, the company is also taking care of its recent arrivals, as the N400 Tacoma is scheduled to enter production before the end of the year with first deliveries in early 2024.

However, there's one sector of the automotive industry that always likes to be a couple of steps ahead of OEMs. It's the imaginative realm of digital car content creators, who are a natural extension of the rumor mill but also like to act completely independently from time to time. For example, Dimas Ramadhan, the virtual automotive artist behind the Digimods DESIGN channel on YouTube, has taken up the task of revealing an all-new N400 Tacoma grade without any corroborative arguments from any industry reports.

Instead, the pixel master dreamed of the 2024 or 2025 Toyota Tacoma GR Sport based on prior experience the Japanese automaker has had with its Gazoo Racing division. The latter is currently involved in creating three distinct series – flagship GRMN limited-edition conversions, the fully-fledged GR models based on the Yaris, 86, Corolla, and Supra series, and the run-of-the-mill GR Sport models.

The latter conversions range from tiny models like the Agya, Aqua, or Copen to crossovers like the Corolla Cross or C-HR and from SUVs like the J300-series Land Cruiser to pickup trucks like the international Hilux model. So, if the latter got a taste of the sporty shenanigans, why not the all-new N400 Tacoma, too? So, the CGI expert immediately dreamed of a feisty-looking Tacoma that would feel at home both on the 'track' and on the rugged trails.

However, there's just one problem – besides the fact that Toyota hasn't started production or sales of the latest Tacoma iteration. The issue at hand concerns the massive grade roster that is already official. Indeed, the company wanted to ensure it could cover all the basics when preparing for the brawl with the Nissan Frontier, Honda Ridgeline, Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, Jeep Gladiator, and the Ford Ranger.

So, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma will soon go on sale with no less than eight grades under its belt: SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off Road, Limited, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter. As such, we don't see too much space for adding a ninth GR Sport trim level. Alas, that doesn't mean we would mind its apparition if it ever turns real!
