You probably don't care about the Skoda Superb unless you live in the Old Continent. But you should, as it is one of the most spacious cars in the mid-size class and it was recently renewed.
Presented online at the beginning of the month, you can consider it the Czech company's cousin to the new-gen Volkswagen Passat. Nonetheless, while the latter is only offered in the Variant (station wagon) body style, the new-gen Skoda Superb comes as a liftback sedan and an estate.

European shoppers who have it at the top of their lists will have to wait until the first quarter of next year to order it. That's when it will go on sale, with the assembly taking place at the same factory that makes the new Volkswagen Passat Variant in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Underpinned by an evolution of the MQB platform, the 2024 Skoda Superb is offered with a generous range of engines. You get the 1.5-liter mild-hybrid in the entry-level form, which makes 150 ps (148 hp/110 kW), a pair of 2.0-liter TSI gasoline units with 204 and 265 ps (201-261 hp/150- 195 kW), respectively, and a plug-in hybrid 1.5 TSI limited to the Combi (estate), rated at 204 ps (201 hp/150 kW).

You're aware that diesels are still a thing on the right side of the pond, right? Well, so is the Czech auto marque, so it decided to launch a pair of low-revving mills for its new-gen mid-size car. The 2.0-liter TDI units kick out 150 ps (148 hp/110 kW) in the front-wheel drive cars and 193 ps (190 hp/142 kW) in the all-wheel drive models. All versions use a seven-speed DSG, bar the 1.5 TSI PHEV, which has a six-speed auto.

If there's one thing you can bet on when it comes to Skodas, it's the fact that the company will never expand the new-gen Superb family with a third body style. Thus, a coupe, a convertible, a shooting brake, or whatever other version you may have in mind will never happen. But that doesn't mean they cannot exist in Fantasy Land, which is the place of birth of this two-door model.

The 2024 Skoda Superb Coupe was sketched out by X-Tomi Design and shared on Facebook a few days ago. The rendering keeps it simple as it deletes the rear doors, making the front ones longer and the rear quarter panels bigger. Elsewhere, it's the same car as the real thing, save for the lively green hue that was digitally applied to it, replacing the original silver.

Such a model would obviously step on the toes of the Audi A5 Coupe and likely would not sell in enough numbers to make it viable. But ignoring these aspects and the fact that the model is not sold in North America, would you say yes to a two-door Superb?
