As you already know, the Porsche Macan is going electric, albeit not entirely. The zero-emission variants will be offered alongside the ICE-powered versions for a few years, and it appears the Zuffenhausen company will eventually decide when to pull the plug on the models fed by dead dinosaurs.
Several prototypes of the Porsche Macan EV have been spied so far, yet the latest sighting is also the most revealing from a design perspective. The tester caught on German roads recently only had a few pieces of black tape here and there, showing its sexy styling to the camera.
It's clear that you won't mistake it for anything else than a Porsche Macan, as the EV looks very similar to its ICE-powered siblings. Mind you, we should note that the two derivatives feature different underpinnings, with the all-quiet model being based on the PPE platform shared with the Audi Q6 e-tron.
Vehicles based on this architecture boast fast-charging capabilities, and they support a generous amount of powertrains with impressive outputs. Cars built on it will have a maximum of 603 hp (612 ps/450 kW) combined and over 738 pound-feet (1,000+ Nm) of torque.
This represents a significant bump over the range-topping version of the current Macan, which adds the GTS suffix and enjoys 434 hp (440 ps/324 kW) for 0-60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 4.3 seconds and a 169 mph (kph) top speed. Needless to say the top-spec Macan EV will smoke it in a straight-line battle, and it would probably pose a threat to some lesser exotic vehicles, too.
Now, back to the looks department, we can see that the Macan EV has Taycan-like headlights and mixes a closed-off grille with several air intakes. The hood is more aggressive this time, and the profile looks about the same, save for the more angular roofline. The back end is defined by the slimmer taillights and a slightly sportier bumper and diffuser-like combo.
Previous spy shots have partially revealed the interior, which does not have much in common with the Audi Q6 e-tron. But that's understandable, as the Macan EV will be positioned more upmarket compared to its cousin.
It has a widescreen display sitting in the middle of the dashboard next to the digital instrument cluster, and we wouldn't be surprised if they gave it a passenger display. The HVAC system will be controlled via a separate screen, and there is another tiny one behind the steering wheel and in front of the digital gauges that we still don't know what it does.
The Porsche Macan EV should reveal all its secrets during the grand unveiling. It has been reported that it might premiere in the coming weeks or months, with the deliveries kicking off early next year. So, we will certainly keep an eye out for it.
