The most powerful series-production Cayenne is ready to pounce with more than 700 ps and 900 Nm of torque under its belt. Converted to imperial units, the plug-in hybrid twin-turbo V8 powertrain cranks out in excess of 690 ponies and 664 pound-feet on full song.
More than 500 ps come from the internal combustion engine, a development of the Audi-Porsche V8 we all know and love. A high-output electric motor assists the twin-turbocharged lump with approximately 130 kW, as in 177 ps or 174 hp. The high-voltage battery has 30 percent more capacity than before, thus mirroring the 25.9 kWh of the V6-powered Cayenne E-Hybrid.

Similar to the six-cylinder sibling, the V8-powered flagship had its onboard charger upgraded to 11 kW for slightly faster charging. Electric range is a bit of a mystery for the time being, although Porsche let it slip that it's closer to 100 kilometers than 50 kilometers (make that 62 and 31 miles, respectively). By comparison, the Cayenne E-Hybrid is rated at 90 kilometers (56 miles) in the urban jungle. In the combined cycle, it offers 74 kilometers (45 miles).

To be offered in both standard and coupe forms, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid can also be specified with something called GT Package. Exclusive to the coupe, said package brings forth more carbon fiber, better aero, sharper steering, and stiffer suspension to boot.

Developed with Europe in mind, where the Turbo GT isn't available due to emission regulations, the Turbo E-Hybrid will sticker at 220,000 euros. At current exchange rates, that price converts to 191,050 pounds sterling in the UK and 246,675 bucks in the US of A.

The redesigned Cayenne isn't all-new from the ground up, but rather an extensive makeover of the third generation. The fourth, as you might have already heard, is going fully electric. Not only does an electric powertrain enable stupendous acceleration, but it's also the easiest way of tackling the aforementioned emission regulations. With Euro 7 coming into effect in 2025, the switch to electric does make sense.

At press time, Porsche's build & price tool for the German market lists three variants of the Cayenne and three variants of the Cayenne Coupe. It all starts with the Cayenne, followed by the E-Hybrid, and topped by the S. The entry-level specification relies on a force-fed sixer, the E-Hybrid builds on it with plug-in hybrid assistance, and the S packs a twin-turbocharged V8.

In other words, think of the upcoming Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid as the S with a plug-in hybrid twist. Without said assistance, the 4.0-liter engine belts out a respectable 349 kW (474 ps or 468 hp) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) between 2,000 and 5,000 revolutions per minute. Those numbers are good enough for hitting 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour) in 5.0 seconds flat, onto a top speed of 273 kph (170 mph).
