2024 Nissan Z Nismo Costs a Resounding $64,990, Z Sport Kicks Off at $42,210

The seventh generation Nissan Z (Fairlady Z in Japan) was introduced in the summer of 2021 after being hinted back in 2018. Production only kicked off during spring 2022, so the latest Z-Car started its travels across America as a 2023 model year.

Pricing was somewhat competitive, though, especially when confronted with its closest enemy – the Toyota GR Supra. As such, you could have a 2023 Nissan Z Sport with a nine-speed auto or six-speed manual gearbox from $40,990. Moving on, the better-equipped Z Performance kicked off at $50,990, and the fashionable Z Proto Spec was the cherry on top at $54k. Now, all that can be forgotten when aiming for the 2024 model year Z.

This is because Nissan has announced the pricing strategy for the new model year, and it's not looking all too great: the 2024 Z Sport kicks off at $42,210, followed by the Z Performance from $52,210. Note that the Japanese automaker has also killed off the Proto Spec, and now there's an all-new flagship – the recently introduced 2024 Nissan Z Nismo that was revealed on August 1 with nice little styling and mechanical upgrades over the regular model.

For example, there's only the nine-speed auto box option now, but the 3.0-liter VR30DDTT engine also got enhanced to 420 hp and 384 lb-ft (521 Nm). Numerous other mods also make it sportier while also keeping with the signature red-tinted looks. However, the good news ends here: a 2024 Nissan Z Nismo costs no less than $64,990. As always, the MSRP excludes applicable tax, title, license fees, and destination charges (the latter, along with the handling fee, is another $1,095).

Meanwhile, it seems like the 2024 Nissan Z soldiers on without any modifications – only that the Z Performance and Nismo also come with native Amazon Alexa Built-in connectivity… and that's about all! Well, although it seems like Nissan is not doing much for its fans, at least it keeps the starting price right under the nose of the 2024 Toyota GR Supra, which kicks off at $45,540 for the 2.0-liter model. The 3.0-liter inline-six, meanwhile, goes for $54,500 and $57,650 (Premium).

Oh, and there is even a GR Supra that matches the pricing of the Z Nismo – Toyota's 45th Anniversary special edition, which only comes with visual tweaks and no added power. So, if you didn't want a Toyota GR Supra, you're better off in the 2024 Z or Z Nismo. However, there are other alternatives that are well worth your consideration – including the BMW M2 if you want something comparable in size or the all-new 2024 Ford Mustang if you don't mind a larger ride.

For example, the great Mexico-built 2023 BMW M2 costs a little less than a Z Nismo, given the $63,200 MSRP – and that's a premium sports car. Concurrently, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 Mustang GT Fastback starts at $42,495 with even more power under the hood – and you could even splurge on a 500-hp Dark Horse Premium with $63,265 and still keep some spare change. Interestingly, that presents a rather tricky choice between the 2024 Nissan Z and Z Nismo against the 2024 GR Supra, BMW M2, and the latest and possibly greatest Mustang!
