Sometimes, the road to the dealership to the salvage car market is shorter than some may think. For this 2024 Hummer EV SUV, it was of only 2,600 miles. A front-end damage put an end to its road life.
"Front-end damage," though, does not tell the whole story. The vehicle is in terrible shape, to say the least. The Hummer EV entered production in January 2023, and deliveries commenced soon after, with customers being able to choose from three trim levels: the 2X, 3X, and 3X Omega Limited Edition. The pickup truck started at $98,845, while the SUV, because it is an SUV that we are dealing with, came with the exact same MSRP.

The entry-level 2X is powered by two electric motors that deliver a total of 570 horsepower and can drive as far as 303 miles before it needs to be plugged in again.

At the opposite end of the lineup, the Omega Limited Edition starts at $130,300. That is the price that customers have to pay for the vehicle powered by three electric motors for a total of 830 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque.

Sitting on GM's state-of-the-art Ultium architecture, the Hummer EV is equipped with a massive battery pack containing 24 modules of such cells for a total capacity of 246 kWh. However, only 212 kWh are actually usable.

Regardless, that battery pack weighs 2,923 pounds (1,325 kilograms), taking the total vehicle weight to a total of roughly 10,000 pounds (4,500 kilograms). That is as much as three Toyota Corollas, for instance.

The Hummer EV is also the heaviest vehicle that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has ever tested, which happened to be another EV, Rivian R1T pickup truck.

The massive weight prompted the IIHTSA to run specialized tests to make sure its crash-testing machinery could handle that much weight. They started with the pulley system, which turned out to be strong enough to work with the Hummer EV towed to it.

The Hummer EV SUV runs from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 106 mph (171 kph). It doesn't sound like anything to write home about. But keep in mind that this is a weapon on wheels, with a weight like no other passenger car and a 0 to 60 run that slots in the supercar territory.

Those figures must have been too much for the driver of this Hummer EV SUV, which went head-first into an obstacle. And considering that mass it is carrying with it, hopefully, that obstacle was not a car.

Whatever it was, the front end is now in pieces. The hood is crumpled all the way to the windshield, but the glass miraculously held up well, as there is no crack in it.

Could this Hummer SUV EV ever get back on the road?

The bumper is broken and so are the front LED lights, while the right-side headlight probably disintegrated. The front suspension on the passenger's side is a mess and that right fender creased like paper in the impact.

However, the frunk, with a volume of 11.3 cubic inches, did not sustain any damage. So whatever the owner had in there must have come out in one piece.

Meanwhile, the driver's side seems to be fine. But the driver's airbag deployed in the crash. Other than these, pretty much everything about the vehicle seems to be intact. The insurance company, GEICO, labeled it as a total loss and paid out to the owner. Now, they are probably trying to cover part of the expense.

This Hummer EV is almost brand-new, with the odometer showing only 2,642 miles (4,252 kilometers). The pre-crash value was estimated at $122,238.

We have yet to see how far the bidding will go once it starts. Whoever wants to take home the massive EV with a salvage title will have to bring a trailer and some duct tape to keep all the pieces together.

The vehicle will be auctioned off in Bakersfield, California.

The Hummer EV is definitely not a simple drive

The Hummer EV is not for anybody. It is massive, it is terribly heavy, and it comes with tons of power. Not anyone can tame that much oomph and handle those proportions.

Last month, we reported about rapper Meek Mill, who crashed his Hummer EV on his very first drive. He took to social media to tell his followers what had just happened to him. Luckily, he walked away unharmed. But there is no way in a million years we could say the same thing about his giant EV.

We are probably going to see it on the salvage car market, which is suffocated by crashed new Hummer, Rivian, and Cadillac Lyric examples. Unless the rapper decides to put it back together.
