The Hummer EV has just registered what might be the world's greatest sales growth ever. The figures in the first quarter of 2024 are up by an impressive 83,300 percent compared to the same period of last year.
The gap between the two periods of 2024 and 2023 makes sense. Only two units were sold in the first quarter of last year, and 3,260 were delivered in total until the end of 2023.

This year, though, GM ramped up production at the group's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly plant in Michigan, and it is showing in this year's numbers. There were 1,668 customers who went home with a Hummer EV, Pickup, or SUV in the first quarter of 2024.

GM does not mention how many customers chose the truck and how many went for the SUV. However, if it keeps up the pace, the model, with its two variants, has a chance to finish 2024 with a growth of over 80,000 percent.

The GMC Hummer EV is underpinned by the Ultium architecture, the first of General Motors' portfolio to receive it. A 24-module, 576-cell battery, sportinga usable capacity of 212.7 kWh, stores enough energy for driving as far as 350 miles (563 kilometers) before the vehicle needs to be plugged in again.

Three electric motors set the EV in motion in an all-wheel drive setup, which pumps out a total of 1,000 horsepower (1,014 metric horsepower) and 11,500 pound-feet (15,591 Newton meters) of torque. It seems every inch a weapon on wheels since the mammoth can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in around 3.0 seconds.

The Hummer EV Pickup starts at $98,845. At the opposite end of the lineup sits the recently unveiled Omega Limited Edition, which is a $140,300 affair. The SUV also has an Omega variant, available for $130,300. However, the base model starts at $98,845, just like the Pickup version.

That drivetrain has to pull roughly 10,000 pounds (4,500 kilograms), a weight that turns the Hummer EV into one of the heaviest passenger vehicles currently sold in the United States.

The Hummer EV entered production in 2021, but it seems that sales are finally taking off. It is GM's highest growth this year by far, followed by the 499 percent of the Cadillac Lyriq, which sold 5,800 units from January to March instead of the 968 units in the same period of 2023. The Chevrolet Tax also recorded impressive progress: 481.4 percent, going from 6,465 to 37,588 units.

However, General Motors’ best-selling vehicle is the Silverado pickup truck, with a total of 129,987 units in the first quarter of 2024, followed by the GMC Sierra with 68,597. The Equinox comes in third with 54,185 units. These numbers are a confirmation that all customers want pickup trucks, SUVs, and crossovers.
