Wrongfully blamed on O. J. Simpson's infamous joyride, the demise of the original Bronco was due to the fact that customer demand shifted towards more traditional SUVs. Thus, Ford pulled the plug on it in 1996 after five generations.
After a 25-year hiatus, Ford brought the Bronco back from the dead. The sixth generation is a little over two years old, with production taking place at the Wayne factory in Michigan and in China for the local market.

Based on the same platform as the Everest, Ranger, and Volkswagen Amarok, it is offered with several engines in multiple configurations. However, it is the Raptor variant that keeps enthusiasts up at night, with its 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 steaming out 418 horsepower (424 ps/312 kW) and 440 pound-feet (597 Nm) of torque on premium fuel.

Offered exclusively with a ten-speed automatic transmission, it is 88 hp (89 ps/66 kW) more powerful than the versions packing the 2.7-liter V6 engine and 118 hp (120 ps/88 kW) punchier than the base 2.3-liter straight-four. The latter can also be specified with a seven-speed manual transmission, and all of them feature a four-wheel drive system.

There have been hints at a possible expansion of the modern-day Ford Bronco family, and if there is one member that should join it, that would be the more exciting Raptor R. After all, it still lacks in the power department, with the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 enjoying a 6.4-liter V8 engine that pumps out 470 horsepower (477 ps/351 kW).

Ideally, the Bronco Raptor R would follow in the footsteps of the F-150 Raptor R by featuring the same engine. And what an engine it is! The 5.2-liter supercharged V8 was sourced from the mighty Mustang GT500, making 700 hp (710 ps/522 kW) and 640 pound-feet (868 Nm) of torque. The output has thus decreased by 60 hp (61 ps/45 kW), whereas the thrust has increased by 15 lb-ft (20 Nm).

We are not the only ones who think the current Ford Bronco lineup could do with a new range-topping version, as it was recently imagined by jlord8 on Instagram. Instead of giving it a widebody makeover, dedicated bumpers, new side skirts, and a few other bits and bobs, the rendering artist has gone the extra mile.

As a result, the model was imagined as a modern take on the original Broncos, featuring a similar design and boasting a new face inspired by the one of the F-150 Raptor R. The result is stunning, and it is certainly something that the Dearborn car manufacturer should consider in a move that would take this nameplate back to basics. We are not the only ones who think this is a great design, are we?
